Ashlyns POV

I turn my head only to see my mum depressed, I'm not sure why yet but I can always see that look in my mum's eyes when somethings wrong.

Her eyes don't sparkle the way they do and today she's just been looking glum. She doesn't have that spark in her laugh, that laugh that always brightness your day, no matter how you feel.

She took me out to spend time with me, but she hasn't seemed to be interested in anything, even the things she's always most interested in. The only thing she seemed interested was on her phone as if she was waiting for one specific text.

She didn't seem like my always cheerful mum today. I mean if you listen to her music you would probably most likely describe the singer to be depressed or in an aching place. But my mum is different she sings from a different place now that she has a wonderful boyfriend, and three kids with him. I know she's happy, well at least was happy.

But the way she's acting today is defiantly not the way I just described her.

Her happiness and joy is all gone and it just makes your day feel lonely.

"Mum you doing okay?" I ask worryingly breaking the silence in the car.

She just keeps her eyes stuck on the road. She glances down once in a while when her phone blows up with texts.

She lets out a sigh and I could tell she's exhausted. "Mum?" I repeat, "What's going on? You haven't been yourself today." she still ignores me and keeps diving, "Mum, what's wrong?"

"Honey, everything is fine." She said as she fixes the rearview mirror.

I lock eyes with her, at that moment I knew everything was not okay.

I look down at my phone trying to make it less awkward. My phone vibrates showing that Anika texted me:

Hey ask mum if dad's working late tonight he's not home."

Without thinking about it I ask her. Her face becomes red as she glances back up at me clearly she didn't want me to ask her that.

"Oh um nevermind," I say sinking down in my seat.

"He's um.. at um.. a business trip yeah, it was a last minute thing. He left last night when you guys were in bed." She said trying to convince herself that's really the case.

"Oh okay," I say not really believing that she's telling me the complete truth but I go with it. She nods and flashes a fake smile.

Clearly, she's hiding something.

As soon as we get home Angelo runs to us with a smile planted on his face and says, "Hi mummy, hi Ashlyn."

Before we can answer mum's phone rings, she moans and runs up the stairs answering her phone.

"Oh okay bye mummy," he says disappointedly, obviously wanting some love.

Sadly he runs into the living room and plays with his Avenger figures.

I make my way to the kitchen, putting my backpack down.
