~A/N~ The entire story isn't in third person, by the way, just the prologue. An important author's note will follow this part, explaining the outline of the story and where romance will be involved, and I strongly suggest you read it after this, but for now I just want to say...
Enjoy the book!
Leila xxShe fell. That was the first time it happened. Six, she was, in the park quite late, while a cold breath of mystery blew over dusty ground and owls hooted eerily in towering trees. Not a soul was in sight except, of course, her and her two sisters. Her parents weren't with them, so they didn't see anything. No one knew.
She was on the climbing frame with her twin, Naadiya. Her older sister, Zara, was supposed to be looking after them, but she was too absorbed in her book to care about what they were doing. Looking at the older girl curled up on the bench with her head in a world of fantasy, the little girl called out to her.
"Zara, look at me, I'm so high up!" Zara didn't even shoot her a glance. The little girl threw her tiny hands up in the air in frustration, and with that small movement came a gust of wind, too strong for her tiny body to combat, and she fell. Tumbling through the air, she thought it was the end. Screaming, her twin Naadiya watched in despair, unable to do anything to save her. The girl closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable pain to rack through her body.
But nothing came.
The girl hadn't landed, and was instead floating a few centimetres off the ground. Coming down gently with a thud, she tried to comprehend what had happened. As a six year old, with much to learn about the world and a strong belief of the supernatural, the girl and her twin agreed that it was magic.
Zara never noticed a thing.

A couple of years passed, and nothing strange happened for a while. The girl grew up a bit, and forgot about the incident. As Zara grew older she became meaner to the girl who was discovering her mischievous side. The two argued all the time. When she was eight, they were in the park bickering over something stupid.
It was a beautiful day - the sky was as blue as a gleaming sapphire, and tongues of silky white cloud licked the rooves of the village's tiny thatched houses. All seemed well, but in the park, it was quite the opposite.
Zara insulted the girl in some way, who then decided she was not having any of it. Screwing her eyes shut, she wished for her sister to be dragged along the grass, the memory of the magic on the climbing frame resurfacing. She was sure it wasn't going to work - after all, that memory was probably just a figment of her imagination - but to her surprise, Zara was yanked away by a strange force.
Yelling in anger, the older girl tried to combat this power, but the younger wasn't letting her break free. The girl rammed her sister into a tree.
Now, she was only eight, and didn't know about severe injuries. The girl thought Zara was just going to hit her head and be sad, but she was knocked out. The family rushed her to the hospital and she had to get stitches.
That's when the girl realised that her power was not normal.

That incident scarred the girl. She was determined to keep her secret hidden, locked away deep inside of her. But then something happened again.Ten years old, almost eleven, playing catch in the garden with Naadiya and her little sister, Sofiyah, who was now of a walking and talking age. One of her biggest fears was spiders, so when she noticed a huge house spider scuttling towards her she panicked. Closing her eyes, the girl prayed to be somewhere else, anywhere. When she opened them, she was in her bedroom.
That day, Naadiya found out about her secret. Sofiyah was too young to understand, so the twins told her to forget it. The young girl didn't ask any questions, and the elder thought that was the last time anything strange would happen to her.
Oh, was she wrong.
