Had the circumstances been different, I probably would've been glad about the change in mood in the girl's dorm. Finally, Lavender and Parvati had ended their feud with Ginny for the year as they were so caught up in keeping me happy, and Luna made friends with the other girls too.

For that weekend I didn't leave the dormitory, afraid of the challenges I would have to face and too much of a coward to stand up to my problems, and the girls supported me in that. Ginny snuck into the kitchens to bring me food, and Hermione kept me company while Lavender and Parvati gave me hourly reports on how everyone felt and what they were saying.

"I know I've been sceptical, but I think Luke really is sorry," Ginny said on Sunday as we sat on my bed, munching away at the sandwiches served at lunch. "He hasn't stopped begging to see you, and he keeps apologising."

"You should forgive him, live happily ever after," Parvati said.

Hermione frowned. "But life isn't like a fairy tale, and we shouldn't treat it that way. Sometimes hurting is better in the long run."

"But hurting is rubbish," said Lavender. "It just makes you sad, I mean look how Leila is acting!"

"But if she forgives and forgets, this could happen again and it'll make her feel worse."

"Jack has been acting very strangely," said Luna, changing the subject as she saw my discomfort. "He's walking around on his own, without his group of friends, and he's always glaring menacingly at me."

"Be careful around him," I warned her. "He'll have a grudge against you."

"I doubt he'll act on it, though," said Ginny. "He's got his point across, that's what he wanted."

"I don't know," I said doubtfully, "he was threatening to kill me."

Lavender winced. "In better news, the other boys really want to see you. Ashton, Calum and Michael tried to get up the stairs but it turns out when boys try to do that, the stairs turn into a slide and they couldn't. Last I saw, Fred and George were trying to charm the stairs so they could get up, but I doubt it will work."

"Even Neville's worried," Ginny added. "He had a go at Luke, all the boys did. They're on our side, they really are. They're not choosing him this time, they promise."

"Well, tomorrow I'll have to come out anyway because we've got lessons again," I sighed.

"What are you going to do about Luke?" asked Hermione.

"I really don't know."

"Please stop ignoring me!" Luke whispered frantically in Potions while Snape's back was turned, and once again I pretended not to hear. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it!"

"Calum, do you have the crushed aconite?" I asked, and my friend passed me the ingredient with a nervous glance towards Luke. The boys were having trouble figuring out where they stood in our relationship, but I had little sympathy towards them.

"Please, Leila!" Luke tried again. "I'm sorry."

"Mr Hemmings, Miss Ahmed, it seems you are unable to stop talking to each other," Snape said. "Don't worry, for you will have a huge amount of time together in detention tonight!"

Instantly a death glare formed on my face and I shot the most poisonous look I could muster at Luke, who just stared back sheepishly. He had to go and earn us both detention when my sole intention was to avoid him.
