Coz I have been where you are before
And I have felt the pain of losing who you are
And I have died so many times
But I am still alive

Knowing  that a parselmouth was sitting in the Slytherin table and was living at Hogwarts made Susan so excited. But it was also hard to keep that a secret when she just wanted to shout to the whole world that she met a true Slytherin.

Luckily Tom liked to talk about it, as if he kept that fact for himself for too long and at last he could share it with someone who understood how special his ability was.

"Well, you can call the snakes and I can take their poison. I love dealing with poisons"  she suggested lively as she never been before.

"It can be a fair deal" he seemed almost winking at her.

Since he revealed that secret to her, he appeared more relaxed and sometimes on his face appeared even the shadow of a smile, that just made him more cute.

He seemed to know exactly where to find snakes whenever they went in the open air. Susan was surprised that he didn't take any inside the castle.

Stupid rules didn't allow snakes as pets. But they appeared like Tom's only friends. He liked to talk to them and he translated their words for her, since she got used to sit with him into the woods in the afternoons after the end of the classes.

"You can touch it" he carefully offered her the adder he was talking to that was sliding on his feet "Don't worry".

She extended an arm and amazed let  the reptile circling her wrist.

"They're just feared and misunderstood" she whispered smiling at the animal "Few people see them for what they really are. They are more scared of us and their bites and venom are their only weapons against menaces".

His espression softened "Nobody ever said something.. so true".

"It's just that I know the feeling. The need of being accepted just as you are. People claim that normal is good, and everything else is wrong. That doesn't mean that it's the right point of view. Still it's how the world goes".

"Right, that's why I understand animals better than people".

"People have infinite shadows. And lie most of the time".

"And they have too many prejudices" he added "They can't just accept you. But I'm glad you accepted me. I don't care about the rest of the world, that don't deserve to know me".

She smiled at him "You accepted me as well. I'm relieved that you can understand me".

"Same" he seemed a bit uncomfortable and lowered his head to talk to the snake that was going back to him "I told it your words. It's thanking you".

"I don't know how to hug a snake" she laughed "Say that I thank back".

Walking back to the castle she couldn't stop talking on that topic "You could tame a runespoor! I've never even seen one. Maybe I can get one someday in the black market and it will be yours".
