Stood at the cold face
Stood with our backs to the sun
I can remember being nothing
But fearless and young
We've become echoes
But echoes to fade away
We fall into the dark
As we dive under the way

...

Let's go out in flames
So everyone knows who we are
Coz these city walls
Never knew that we'd make it this far

We've become echoes
But echoes fading away
So let's dance like two shadows
Burning out a glory day

We've become echoesBut echoes fading awaySo let's dance like two shadowsBurning out a glory day

________

Griselda Peverell, that Susan could just call "the blind harpy" rather than grandmother, became a tyrant, since the early death of her only daughter.
Susan felt that the old woman never forgave her for surviving.
She hated each and every day spent with her into the cottage that once was her lovely home.

Their domestic elf, Gabbe, wasn't allowed to cook anything sweet. She was completely subdued to the harpy's evil wills. Perhaps she was even using a perennial Imperius.
There was no sugar into that house, every food was as bitter or tasteless as her life in there. Many times she tried to herself starve, but hunger was the only thing worse than that excruciating existence into those walls painted with her own blood.

Sometimes Susan wondered how she didn't become an obscurial similar to the one that ruined her life. She even considered that her heartless grandmother's purpose was right to create one, in order to destroy it, after not getting the possibility to kill the obscurial that took her daughter away.
And the Ministry of Magic didn't do anything. Susan was just seven when the world crushed down on her and nobody cared of a kid's will and complains. The Ministry had been unable to prevent an obscurial to kill two wizards and many other people, the Ministry condemned her to live with a witch who hated her. And he Ministry was supposed to be always right.
If that was justice, then Susan couldn't become a justice's servant.

Quite similar at Hogwarts. The teachers were supposed to know what was better for their students. But Susan couldn't forget what Galatea Merrythought did to her and there could not be any bloody good reason behind that choice, because Susan just learned to hate her.
At least at Hogwarts she wasn't alone and was allowed to study, something she simply loved, and specially she could use magic. Out from that castle, all she could manage were phials.

All the worries faded away when she got on the train and met familiar faces.
Two months didn't change much the people, someone just had some new interesting adventures and journey to tell.
Others like Susan and Tom just stayed silent listening.
On the carriages they sat next to each other, chucking at the sight that nobody else could see. Everyone else was just blind.
After the sorting ceremony, the craved dinner. Susan focused just on the desserts even knowing it was unhealthy.
The dormitory was welcoming as usual and she felt at home at last.
She learned to appreciate the company of her rommates, Ophelia, Gaia and Iris. They were used to talk to fall asleep and they were agreeing on many things.
Susan knew that they could all be good allies.
Gaia's motto fitted their main ideology: "Better to reign in hell, than serve in paradise".
