Chapter 3:

The car pulled out of the garage slowly and I looked out of the window. Nothing in sight; just the normal Georgia sun blazing on its citizens. If, there were any left. Addy sat still on my lap. I held her closer and covered her even though it was hot. I couldn't let her see anything that would give her nightmares; even though the world was now a nightmare. I figured Grayson would have to learn to not be scared of the zombies and he would have to just get used to them. "Are we going to call them zombies? I was thinking something like a code word," I said. We decided we'd call them biters, a better word than zombies. We had just reached out of the city. My mom knew where she was going. I could just tell. We pull up right outside of the woods and she gets out of the car. "Come on and hurry up," she said. I didn't ask any questions. I grabbed my bag, and addy, and told Grayson to get out of the car. We follow my mom through the path to what looks like nowhere. "Ummm, mom? Do you know where your going?" I say. "Just hush up and follow me,"she said. Once we finally reach somewhere, I see a big fence. It has barb wire on the top. "What is this place mom?"Grayson said. "A place we will be safe at, but were gonna have to clean it out. I don't think we can do all of that just me and Anna." "What if someone already took this place?"I say. I look up to a tower and see an Asian-looking man. "Someone already called this place theirs."I said. I heard some kind of growling. No, more like moaning. I wondered if someone was hurt. "Mom what is that?!?!?"Grayson said. Something ugly came up behind my mom. "MOM LOOK OUT !" I said. My mom screeched. It had bit her. "NO!" I said as I stabbed it in the head. "NO NO NO NO THIS CANT BE HAPPENING," I cried. I tried. I tried and tried with all my heart to save her but it was too late. I wanted to cry but I knew I couldn't. I had to be strong. I couldn't attract any other of those "things". Grayson sat there next to my mother. He was bawling his eyes out so hard I thought maybe they would burst. "Grayson, come on we have to be strong. I know this is hard but .." I couldn't finish my sentence. My mom suddenly rose up. She had the same moaning sound as the biter that bit her. I instantly knew. That was not my mother anymore.
