Chapter 24: Yo-yo's

"You got that right," I said to Skylynn.

"You think they'd pretty up the world before putting zombies everywhere," I said and laughed.

Sky gave me a look and kept walking.

She doesn't like being wrong.

At all.

She's αℓwαy̫s right.

We figured that maybe Carl headed to one of the houses in the neighborhood looking for food. But then I remembered something:

whαt ιʄ cαrℓ goes bαck to the house αnd were not there? whαt ιʄ he dιd αℓreαdy̫?

"We should start heading back," I said.

"Aren't we going to the sanctuary?" Glenn said.

Sanctuary? We never planned on going there. We only mentioned it. And I still think its a set up.

"Uh.....yea, but Carl wouldn't go there without us, so we shouldn't go and not find him first." I said trying to sound smart.

"Uh ok," Glenn said.

This day went by pretty fast. The sun was almost set, and we better hurry. You know what happens at dusk.

"My feet hurt," said sky.

"Well, they'll do that when your walking for a while," I said.

Skylynn rolled her eyes and kept walking.

I told you. She isn't five. She can't be😒

Skylynn was dragging her feet.

And of course another walker came close to us.

I got tired of seeing these things.

Especially when I saw one yesterday.

That was probably the worst day of my life.

🌸

"I got it." I said annoyingly.

I grab my knife and stab at its skull.

"So Anna, how old are you? Or at least how old you think you are," he joked.

"Haha well my birthday was a few days ago," I said.

"And- I'm 14." I say.

"What about you Skylynn?" He asks.

Five. I'm expecting her to say five. Yet I'm expecting her to say 16 because of the way she acts and thinks.

"I'm seven," she said.

WHAT? SEVEN?

"WHAT? SEVEN?" I yelled.

She looked confused.

"What?" She says.

Glenn looked surprised too.

"Your....." He coughed. "Your seven?" He said.

Seven. She's seven. Well now I can see why her personality is like this.

"I'm pretty sure I know my own age guys."

•.•

Anyways, other than freaking out about sky's age, we actually made it back to the house.

I opened the door.

"We should make sure no one else came here and either took things and left, or left everything and stayed." Glenn said.

Skylynn ran to the couch and sat down.

"My feet hurt like crazy!" She said and yawned.

"Yea yea yea whatever," I say and walk up the stairs.

No sign of anyone. I go into the room I wanted to be mine and grabbed my cover. I gotta say, we really nicened up the place.

All the windows are bordered up, the cabinets have food, and the fridge has atleast expired pop and water.

It would just be gross to have milk in there.

Yuck.

I lay down on 'my' bed and grab a comic book. It feels weird laying in someone else's bed. But I guess that's the way it's gotta be.

Sky runs up the stairs and into my room.

"Please leave," I say not even taking my eyes off the book.

"I just want to see something," she says.

I take my eyes off the book and watch her.

She runs to this toy shelf and grabs a yo-yo.

She plays with it, then throws it down.

"I can never get this thing the first time!" She yells in frustration.

"Hey hey hey!" I say and get up.

"Dude it's a yo-yo, It isn't that hard. I'll teach you."

She breathed out loudly.

I ignored her.

"So you take your finger..." I say as I was grabbing her finger and putting it through the loop of the string.

"And hold the yo-yo part...... Now let go!"

She let go of it and sure enough it went to the floor and came back up.

"I did it!!! I actually did it!! Mom will be so!-"

She paused. Then she threw the yo-yo on the ground and stormed out of my room.

"Sky!" I yelled. "Wait!"
