Somebody Waiting

'You know, you are not obligated to come...you know that you can decline the invite.'
Richard said as he watch Raine rummaging her things inside her bag.

'No. I'm okey. Nakakahiya kay tita kung bigla akong aatras. And as I see this mukha namang okey if I come. Baka ikaw nahihiya na kasama ako.' She said as she close the bag.

'Of course not!' Mariing tanggi ng binata.
Kung pwede nga lang kasama ka parati eh. He thought to himself.

'Its you I'm worried about. Simula nung sinabi ni Peter na girlfriend kita hindi na ko tinantanan ng buong angkan ko. They would call me even in the middle of night making sure that you'll come with me today.' He reasoned.

Raine came forward to stand in front of Richard and said plainly,
'Oh ano pa pinoproblema mo, sasama nga ako..saka itatama natin yung sinabi ni Peter na girlfriend mo ko. We will say na what he meant is that I'm your GIRL NA FRIEND. Ganern!' Singhal nito sabay bitbit ng bag at lumabas ng bahay para sumakay sa kotse.

After 30 mins. they are hitting the road going to Reyes' rest house in Tagaytay. Last thursday was a roller coaster experience for everyone. It begins after the surprise visit of Raine, to the accidental meeting of her and tita Bea, down to the unruly introduction of Peter of her being Richard's girlfriend. And if it seems that things could not get any worse, the very giddy tita invited Raine to join the family annual reunion this Saturday.

It is just a reunion after all, she thought. What unfortunate event could happen? Raine sigh upon accepting tita Beatriz's invite.

Richard thought otherwise.

And so, with the last straw of chance he can throw, he pulled the car over to the sidewalk to face Raine with a serious aura.

'Sige, sasabihin ko na kung bakit ayokong pumunta ka.' He started.

'All ears taba. Sige nga bakit.' Raine faced him like challenging his arguement.

Richard sigh deeply as he prepare himself to blurt out his thoughts.

'Okey. Look, my family is great pero they will scrutinize you kapag nakita ka nila. Over the years of my existence this will be the very first time that I would bring a girl sa kahit anong gathering. Tita invited you, yeah she is the nicest person in the world pero iba ang pamilya namin. Alam mo ba na we are not allowed to bring a girlfriend because relationship for us is pure bussiness? Do you understand me? Ayokong masaktan ka. I would not allow that.'
Mahabang paliwanag ni Richard. Umaasa na nakarating sa dalaga ang ibig nyang ipahiwatig na ikinataas naman ng kilay nito.

'So kung totoo palang girlfriend mo ko hindi mo ko ipapakilala, hindi mo ko ipaglalaban? Kawawa naman ang mamahalin m--'

She was cut short.

'Kung girlfriend kita, papakasalan muna kita bago kita ipakilala para wala na silang palag!' Galit na sabi nito at natahimik si Raine.

'Aaahhh...ookkk...' Bulol na komento nito at ibinalik ang tingin sa kalsada.

'Don't worry Chard, I can handle myself...

...And kagaya nga ng sabi mo, you will not allow me to get hurt. Alam kong hindi mo ko papabayaan.' She said warmly.

Raine knows in her heart the fact that she can trust Richard. She can see it through his eyes, the eyes which assures her that she's safe, that there's nothing to worry about basta nandyan ang binata.

'Eww...wait girl..what's with those thoughts?' Raine asked herself with a furrowed brow.

'Hey, having second thoughts?' Richard asked as he saw her expression.

'Second thought on what?' She confusingly answered because now in her mind his question could mean two things: 1. Her agreement to come to his family's reunion or 2. That she's starting to have a crush on Richard.

Arghh...inis.
