"How'd you even get my number?" You asked, crossing your arms as you glared at Iwaizumi, who sat on the couch trying not to look guilty.
"Look, I just called to say I'm sorry (f/n)-chan." You rolled your eyes, this boy was annoying the crap out of you.
"You could have done that a week ago, and I know you're not really sorry. So what's the catch."
"Iwa-chan said I couldn't come over until I apologized."
"Why do you even come over? You literally live an hour and half away and there is plenty of other friends at your university." You grumbled, Iwaizumi kept his eyes focused on his textbook while he was eavesdropping on your conversation with Oikawa.
"Because..."
"You don't really have a solid excuse, if anything I'd be surprised if you never visited because you always leave with bruises. Not that I'd mind or anything of course."
"Why are you so rude (f/n)-chan." He growled as calmly as one could, but you could hear the frustration in his voice over the speaker.
"Look, I'm not rude, you're ticked that I figured out your weakness and called you out on it. It's funny, I talked to one of your friends from Aoba Johsai, Hanamaki I think? Yeah well he said you did this on a daily basis, so I'm not sure why you're getting upset about it." You walked over to sit next to Iwaizumi on the couch, gently placing his textbooks on the floor before throwing your legs over his lap. He gave you a glare, before you shot back a 'This is your fault look.'
"In high school I did that," Oikawa's voice was loud enough for Iwaizumi to hear, before the spiky haired boy rolled his eyes, taking the phone from your hand.
"You still do Trashykawa."
"Stop calling me that." You then took the phone back, hitting the speaker button, " Why? It fits your personality perfectly."
"I already have one Iwa-chan, I don't need another." He grumbled into the phone, before you and Iwaizumi stifled a laugh.
You heard heavy breathing over the speakerphone, before catching exaggerated high pitched feminine voices in the background.
"Oikawa-san!" They called out, much to your irritation.
Both you and Iwaizumi rolled your eyes irritatedly, gosh how annoying, before you tapped the end call button with a smug expression on your face.
"Pretty people who other people fawn over annoy me." You grumbled, tossing you phone onto the other side of the couch with a soft thud.
"You literally just got three baskets full of chocolate hearts last week." Iwaizumi said, raising an eyebrow as you fumbled over words to reply to him.
"They were for you."
" It said, Dear, (l/n)(f/) my love, with hearts on all of them."
"Eh, coincidence, there must be another (f/n) in the building." You stated, trying to fight the frown tugging on your lips. Iwaizumi noticed this, before sighing.
"You hate being the center of attention, don't you?" he asked, as you nodded your head, exhaling a large breath of air. It was true, you did hate being the center of attention, but somehow you couldn't help it, eyes were always watching your every move.
" I feel like I can't be myself, and I always have to be perfect. It just becomes so tiring, because I'm not perfect, and I don't expect other people to be." You told him, to which he crossed his arms over his chest as you sighed once more.
"So that's why you hate it when Oikawa tries to act perfect in front of you?" He asked.
You nodded your head, thank goodness somebody understood you.
"Did you ever think he was trying to be perfect to impress you?"
"No. He just does that to everyone, besides he like hates me anyways. And he's a shitty person. But the only reason why I wanted to try and see if there was a real person behind that smile was because you're an amazing guy, and there's no way you can be best friends with him if he acts like that all the time."
Over the course of your time living together, Iwaizumi was consistently impressed with you. You were understanding, and you thought out things meticulously before you said them. To add onto that, you were caring and forgiving, especially when he once told you to get a bowl out of the microwave, without warning you it'd be hot. You had a large burn on your palm for the next few weeks after that.
"That is true, he's not a bastard all the time, he's actually a good guy. He's caring, hardworking, to the point where overdoes it, smart, and oddly enough, he's actually pretty loving. The reason why he visits so often is because he's worried, after that one match, the one you had pulled up on your laptop that one morning when you asked me to bring it to school, the final game I played with Oikawa..." He paused, you hadn't even realized he had seen the match against Karasuno on your laptop, let alone thought of it as a possibility.
"Well, I'm sure you saw the footage that followed after that. It destroyed me that I couldn't end the match there, I was the ace, I should have been able to finish that rally. I never left my room the following day until I went to watch the Karasuno vs. Shiratorizawa game. Oikawa noticed the dark circles under my eyes. I hadn't slept because I couldn't live with the fact I let my team down. So, after that day, he always came to check up on me to make sure I was okay, and resting like how I should be. Honestly, I wanted to quit volleyball after that day, but he made sure I didn't. And for that, I owe him a lot or else I wouldn't be here now." You were listening quietly, nodding your head at the parts that were needed. You never knew any of this about Iwaizumi, left alone that Oikawa was possibly a good person.
"You've never told anyone that before, have you?" You asked.
"No, I haven't ,you're the first one I've told actually. I've always been afraid people would judge me because I wanted to give up. But you don't judge, you accept, I've noticed. " He said with a nervous laugh, to which you felt yourself smile. You leaned over to hug him, your legs still on his lap. You kept your arms wrapped around his neck. With any other girl he usually would have become embarrassed, but he had gotten used to your friendly gestures.
"Iwa-chan! How sweet!!" You heard a voice from the other side of the couch speak. Both you and Iwaizumi looked over at your phone promptly sitting beside his thigh.
"I thought you hung up!"
"I thought I hung up too!" You exclaimed, while Iwaizumi reached for the phone, revealing that Oikawa was indeed still on the phone and indeed had been listening to your conversation.
You sighed, before tilting your head back and letting out a loud groan. Iwaizumi shook his head, both of you exasperatedly sighing as the voice spoke.
"I never knew you thought so highly of me Iwa-chan!"Oikawa said in a high pitched voice, while you mouthed 'I'm sorry' to Iwaizumi.
"Goodbye Oikawa." He said, this time actually turning off the call.
"I can't believe-
"Gosh, I hate him." You said with another groan while Iwaizumi joined in with a sigh.
"Okay, so what my point was (f/n) before I was so rudely interrupted was, give Oikawa a chance at actually getting to know him. I know he was a total asshole last time you talked to him, but he's actually a good guy. And hopefully, with you in his life, he'll become a great guy and less shitty , you bring out the best in people." Iwaizumi finished, as you locked eyes with his dark ones. He was dead serious.
"Only because you're the one asking, I don't think I'd do it for anyone else." You said, as a smile grew over both yours and his features.
"This was a deep talk." He said with a chuckle, trying to laugh off the seriousness of your conversation, "Ice cream?" He asked, as you began making your way to the fridge.
"Ice cream." You replied, before opening the fridge and revealing the three containers of ice cream stuffed in the freezer. Boy did you and Iwaizumi have a problem, in all honesty, a huge chunk of your money went to just food.
