Everything seemed to be going good since you had been home. Oikawa was over a lot, heaven knows his gas bill was a ridiculous amount of money. He loved being able to see you again, and because he felt like he hadn't spoiled you enough, he took you out on the town to buy some things for you. Sure gifts were cool, but you loved spending time with him the most and he refused to be with you any second longer if you weren't wearing a necklace he had purchased for you.
So of course you agreed to go with him. You more than anything wanted to be with him again. The time you spent in Australia had given had you more than enough time to think about how much you actually missed Oikawa. His lowkey pettiness when he was jealous, but his childish and charming self. What could you say, you loved the guy.
"Hey what ya thinkin about cutie?" He asked as you snapped back to reality.
"Nothing really, how about we go look at that silver necklace right there?" You asked, wandering down the counter with your eyes fixated on a shiny beauty. It was rather simple, and in all honesty you loved simplicity, expensive was not really your style.
"Don't you want something, more expensive (f/n)-chan?" Oikawa asked as you looked at he looked at the necklace sitting in the display case. You shook your head as the jeweler clerk came by, examining your choice.
"This is quite simple, a lot different from the girl you had come in with a few months ago." She said, giving Oikawa a questioning look. You turned to him as well, before chirping in, "I'm surprised you can remember that far back."
"The previous girl made a huge fuss about the diamonds and what size they should be and how much it was really worth. It's quite easy to remember her, especially since she had each and every one of us give her an opinion." You could feel your heart stop. You were in a different country a few months ago.
"I thought it was you at first, but you were way prettier than that girl, with much simpler yet beautiful taste." You had no words for Oikawa, you knew he had been talking to a few girls you just didn't know it had been pretty recent.
"Thank you, I think." You said with a laugh as you turned back to Oikawa who looked really uneasy, waiting to see if the girl would say anything else.
"Of course, let me ring this up for you." She said with a smile, before disappearing to the register. Oikawa went to speak, but you decided you'd speak first, "So another girl got a necklace before me. Cool." You said with a light-hearted smile, although he knew you were faking it.
"I-"
"Here you go," The lady had come back, as Oikawa paid for the necklace, hastily pulling out his wallet before tucking it back in his pocket. "Thanks." You said to her with a smile, before walking out of the store with the small plastic bag in hand.
"Let me explain (f/n)." He said, reaching for your arm as you entered the open air, eyes set on the other shops with lights glistening. "What is there to explain? You were dating someone else." You commented, trying your best not to sound jealous, or upset. In all honesty, you felt sort of mad at yourself for thinking he wouldn't do this. He always started talking to another girl to ease his problems according to Iwaizumi.
"Yes, I did date. I dated three girls, but it meant nothing." You wanted to believe his words, but it made you question the truth.
"Explain to me then, if you loved me so much, why did you date not just one, but three other girls?" You asked, crossing your arms over your chest as he let out an anxious sigh.
"Cause, I missed you, so I tried forcing those feelings onto other girls, searching for someone like you." He said hesitantly.
"And have any luck? Or was I an easy back up plan since nothing worked out with those girls." You said. You hadn't decided to ask him about the other girls, it just seemed like the right moment.
"Well, I mean they were cute and made me happy. But they were superficial, they only liked me for my looks and volleyball title."
"Ah, so you would have totally continued dating them if they weren't so wrapped up on your outward appearance. Would you have even showed them the real Oikawa? " You asked, a certain tone in your voice that made his chest hurt.
"I mean-"
"Nah it's good. I get it. Right now, I'm just frustrated, because you told me you loved me and you always had, so why had you gotten involved with other girls. You knew I was coming back eventually, it was only a one year thing. Those girls seemed to be objects you used to get love and affection from while I was gone." You stated, letting out a deep breath.
"(f/n)."
"Thanks for the necklace, but I'm going to head home, I'll just have Iwa pick me up. Try not to find any replacements for me while I'm gone, I don't know whether you're using me to boost your reputation and steal kisses and love from, or if you actually meant it. " You said, before taking a step into the street.
"Stop acting like this! Okay I-" Your eyes wandered to the street as a little girl dashed into the road in chase of a ball. You quickly moved, watching as oncoming traffic was speeding towards her. In moments, your arms were around her as you shielded her from the cars.
Seconds later you felt your body hit the asphalt, as you struggled to breathe the little girl safely on your stomach and chest as you had tucked her into your body. Your whole body ached, but nothing compared to the three cars completely totaled, with a brown haired boy laying on the hood of the car.
Your breath left you as you recognized the boy. Oikawa had a gash in the side of his head, he must had gone after you.
"Tooru!" You said, feeling your lungs begin to collapse in despair as he laid motionless. You had done the one thing you promised yourself you never would. Which was leaving him angry because the future had never been promised, and this moment in time it was uncertain whether he was still alive.
