The one thing about Oikawa is that he can bring the best out in a player no matter who the person is.
Iwaizumi's words replayed over and over again as you indignantly thought out Oikawa's personality. You remember comparing Tobio to Tooru, you hoped this would help you understand his resentment for the younger male. You thought about Kageyama, he was pure genius, naturally talented. While you looked at Oikawa who was said to be surpassed by Kageyama at Kitagawa Daiichi, according to Iwaizumi.
When you had watched videos of Oikawa playing, you saw he indeed did bring out the best of his teammates and the worst of his rivals. You had to hand it to him, the boy was extremely talented yet he was different from Kageyama, who seemed to automatically have that talent and mindset. Oikawa didn't in a way, he worked hard, extremely hard. Eventually hard work beats talent, which was one of the reasons as to why Oikawa worked so hard in the first place. His ability to train intensely, and use of his intelligence and skills made up for the lack of natural talent. His much feared jump serves certainly did not come from automatic skills.
You were ripped from your thoughts as your phone rang, " Hello?" you asked picking it up without paying much attention to the caller I.D. You tugged the blanket that was on the back of the couch over yourself, before settling into a comfy position while waiting for a response.
" (f/n)-chan, are you home?"
" Yeah why?" you asked recognizing the voice to be Oikawa's.
" I found a stray dog and I need help caring for him, he needs a bath and he's a little beat up," he said, his voice laced with concern, the only time you had heard that tone was when Iwaizumi was sick or hurting.
" Oh no poor thing, but why did you call me?"
" He needs somewhere to stay for the next few days, and I didn't know anyone else who would be willing to help him."
" I can't have dogs here permanently, but if you can find an owner by Sunday I can let him stay and care for him."
" I will. I'm five minutes away from the apartment with dog shampoo and food."
" What?!! You didn't tell me prior to heading here?!"
" (f/n), you're a compassionate person, I know you'd say yes, see you in a few." He hung up before you sighed, getting off the couch to get some towels and set up the bathroom so you could give the dog a bath and clean him up.
Within minutes, Oikawa was at your door, an old blanket wrapped around a very dirty and small collie, who had a few cuts on his nose. It looked like the dog had definitely seen better days.
" Come here," you said, taking the creature into your arms carefully before walking to the bathroom, Oikawa following in suit with the shampoo and food. The poor dog was quite thin, and his paws were very dirty, almost black. The animal began shivering, to which you felt your heart cry for the malnourished creature.
Quickly you turned the water on warm before taking the shower nozzle off the hook while beckoning for Oikawa to bring the dog who you had put on the floor into the shower. He helped you place the mangy dog into the shower, while holding him still gently, reassuring the collie while lovingly scratching behind his ears.
You watched in pure amazement as Oikawa took the nozzle from you, then he himself started softly rinsing off the dirt, getting his jeans and nice sweater along with button up collar, soaking wet.
You let him lead, before taking the shampoo and placing it on top of his fur, creating suds with your hands as you gently began scrubbing the dirt out.
