Just then, Mrs. Keesh walked in. "Hey kids." She greeted.
"Hey." We replied in unison.
She smiled and brought out a tray full of baked goods. They were of all different sizes, shapes, and colors.
Some were red and round, and some were green and long. Some were plain colored and filled with cream.
There were also tarts filled with different kinds of fresh fruit, and miniature chocolate cupcakes.
"I made these for you guys, but they're still cooling, so why not stay for dinner?" She asked nicely.
I was starving since the last meal I had was yesterday, but I didn't like the idea of eating here.
But before I could answer, Callie already starting speaking.
"We'd love to!" Callie answered as she ran into the kitchen with Mrs. Keesh, followed by Miku and Phix.
I was left alone in the living room. I sighed. "Guess I'm staying for dinner." I whispered to myself.
As I joined the others in the kitchen, they were already seated.
The table was set, and a pile of white plates sat at the edge of the table.
On the the table were huge bowls full of carrots and peas, meatloaf, rolls, and a strange red vegetable.
I took the last seat in between Callie and Miku.
Which apparently wasn't supposed to mine, because a few moments later, a tall man walked in.
He had brown hair that was dyed purple in some places, a dark violet jacket and matching tie with black pants.
I figured he was Mr. Keesh, Miku's dad.
He took a chair from the living room and sat next to Mrs. Keesh.
I took a clean plate and waited patiently for everyone to get their food.
He examined us as he took his empty plate and began to fill it with food.
"Hello kids." He greeted with a slight smile.
"Hey dad." Greeted Miku. "Hi, Mr. K ." Followed Callie.
"Hello, Mr. Keesh." I greeted, a little later than the rest.
He chuckled. "You guys can call me Marley." He said as he got up to get something to drink.
A moment later he came back with two cartons. He passed one to Mrs. Keesh, and the other to Miku.
"Do you prefer apple or cranberry juice?" Asked Mrs. Keesh, with the apple juice.
"Apple!" Answered Miku and Callie continuously.
"Cranberry please." I answered. I was the only one who wanted cranberry.
Mrs. Keesh poured apple juice in everyone's glass, except mine.
Then Miku handed me the cranberry juice. I poured it myself.
There was an awkward silence as everyone ate.
The only conversation was the one between our fork and the plate.
Half way through the dinner, Phix crawled under the table.
He sniffed at my knees, probably hungry.
I pet the top of his head with my hand, which smelled like bread and butter, so he licked it.
I laughed quietly, then I picked up a roll of bread and fed it to him.
He fit the whole roll in his giant, slobbery mouth.
I almost burst out laughing because of how he looked with huge puffy cheeks.
Kind of like a squirrel, with a nut in their mouth.
Mr. Keesh looked at me weirdly, so I signaled Phix to stay quiet.
He rubbed his head against my arm, and disappeared under the table.
After a while, Mrs. Keesh decided to start a conversation.
She tried asking us about our day, but the only answers were "good." or "okay."
We ended up talking about the flood in my neighborhood.
I suddenly froze, remembering that it was all my fault.
My heart started to pound as I imagined the trouble I would get in when I went back home.
"When was I going home anyway?" I decided to ask. When I did, the most unexpected answer was given to me.
Mr. and Mrs. Keesh exchanged worried looks, and Miku looked down.
Callie looked just as confused as I did. We waited for an answer.
"Well, Belle, Callie, as you know, there was a flood. It was caused by someone who cracked the ice from the rink." Mrs. Keesh began to explain.
"And due to the danger, some families were forced to evacuate until further notice." Mr. Keesh
finished.
"Yeah, and because of that stupid person, we can't enter the town!" Miku added.
I gulped. My stomach tied in knots, and my hands started to shake.
I looked at Callie, who was also partly responsible for this. She had a scared look on her face.
I decided to play it clueless, since they didn't know it was us who broke the ice.
"So, the whole town is closed?" I asked, nervously.
"No, just the roads. And most of the people aren't home." Miku answered.
I sighed. "Does that mean I have to stay here for the night?" I asked, a bit down.
Callie looked at me with sarcasm in her eyes. "Unless you have another way of transportation." She replied.
Miku's parents nodded in agreement.
I turned to Miku, he had a smile on his face. "Actually. I might have something in mind." He said.
We looked at him, gesturing for him to proceed.
He blew a whistle, and Phix stood next to him.
Miku patted Phix's long, furry back. "Room for three. All aboard."
