As we entered, my eyes started to water.
The town I once knew as home, was now covered ankle-deep with ice and snow.
All the benches, lampposts, and houses were also glazed with a thin layer of clear frost.
All the birds and small animals had disappeared, along with most of the people.
Not a soul to be found, or heard.
It was silent, and still, like the scene had been frozen.
I made my way to my house, which was now a frozen statue of ice.
The door was stuck, and frozen solid.
I kicked the ice below the door several times.
A couple more times, it was openable.
I held the slippery handle tightly, and pulled slowly.
When it opened, a dark hallway appeared.
I looked back at Callie, Miku, and Phix, and gestured for them to come in.
They refused. "I'm going to find my house, but I'll catch up with you later." Callie said as she left.
Phix pulled Miku towards the street.
"We're going to have some fun while the street is frozen!" Miku shouted while gliding away.
I took a deep breath. I walked in, and turned on the lights.
They flickered, as if it hasn't been on for a while.
I looked in the living room. The room was filled with a layer of dust. They weren't there.
I checked the kitchen next, they weren't there either. The kitchen was pitch black.
I walked up the stairs slowly, each step creaked as I did.
The hallway up there was creepy. The rooms were all empty, and filled with gloominess.
I sighed. They weren't home.
That means they're either at the local shelter for a while, or, they're.....gone.
I decided to wait and see if they come back.
In the mean time, I'll hang out with Callie.
I rushed down the creepy stairs, the dark hallway, and out the door.
Outside, Miku and Phix were sliding and gliding in circles.
Callie was walking back from her house.
"Hey!" She shouted from half a block.
I ran down the ice-covered street.
I didn't notice the lump of snow on the ground and almost fell on my head.
Luckily, Phix caught me. I laughed. "Thanks buddy." I thanked and pet him on the head.
Callie and Miku joined us with ice-skates. They handed me one, too.
"So how'd the house go?" I asked Callie as we skated around the old fountain.
We made a couple jumps occasionally, but nothing dangerous. We've learned our lesson.
"Good, they were home and nothing much happened." She answered as she spun around a pole.
I looked to Phix and Miku, who looked distracted enough.
"And, they didn't know about the jump?" I asked, in a whisper tone.
She was about to answer but she stopped and scanned our surroundings.
