That night I packed my stuff for the trip ahead. I packed summer clothes, toiletries, my 300 dollars I got saved up, some leftover candy and cookies I had in my closet, and my phone.
I took Marabelle to Target with me to get some clothes and toiletries for her since she didn't have any. I headed to the little girl section.
"This blue unicorn shirt is cute!" I said as I picked it up. "Do you know what size you are? Eh, let me just check." I said as I checked the tag on the dress she was wearing.
She was size small so I got her the unicorn shirt and a jean skirt.
"Can I get those pink shoes?" Marabelle smiled as she picked the shoes up and twirled them around.
"Can't you just make those shoes appear out of nowhere?" I laughed.
"No, I can only do that with food, but then still I get tired after I make food." Marabelle looked down.
"You never told me that." I said as I pushed the cart down the next aisle.
"I didn't want to disappoint your boyfriend." Marabelle smiled and skipped down the aisle.
I just laughed and shook my head. That silly girl.
We walked out of the store with four shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, 3 skirts, 6 dresses, 5 pairs of boots, 3 pairs of socks, a hairbrush, a pink toothbrush, toothpaste, a pink towel, shampoo, and body wash.
"I'd say we did good!" I high-fived Marabelle.
"Thank you for this. Getting me out of the earbuds, accepting me into your house, agreeing to take me to my dad, buying me all this stuff. I really appreciate it." Marabelle hugged me.
"No problem." I smiled and hugged her back.
"Now let's get you back! It's getting dark and we should be going to bed soon." I said as I put the bags in the car and drove back home.
I kind of liked taking care of Marabelle. It's like having my own kid. I've always wanted kids. They are so cute. Especially 7 year old Marabelle.
We got home and I packed her suitcase while she was sleeping in my room. I folded up all of her clothes and packed them neatly.
Later that night, I got a post it note and wrote a note for my parents to read in the morning after we had left:
Good morning,
I admit, Austin and I have not always had a great relationship with you two. Maybe that is just because we are completely different people. Austin and I are Christians. I am sorry we went against the house rule, but God was just calling to us. We hope when we get back from this last minute trip that both of you will still accept us into your home. If not, I completely understand. We left both of you a Bible as you can see, with a note of verses to read on it. I encourage you to pick it up and be filled with the wisdom. We want to build our relationships with both of you when we get back because you are our family and families are supposed to stick together and encourage each other. Thank you for raising us and I wish you two to be blessed by the grace of God.
With immense love,
Kaitlyn and Austin
I stuck the note on their snooze button while they were sleeping and went up to Austin's room to tell him what I wrote on the note from both of us.
"I hope there are no hard feelings. I am happy that at least we are leaving them a Bible and telling them the truth about us before we leave. So it's like two missions being enforced at the same time." Austin smiled as he hugged me goodnight. "By the way, I hope you don't mind that I invited Caroline, my girlfriend." He said before I left.
"The one with autism?" I asked.
"Yeah. Don't worry she won't slow us down." He smiled.
"It's ok. I should have thought about that. I mean I invited Zach so I'm happy you invited Caroline." I smiled.
"Hey, is Zach a good guy?" Austin asked.
"Yes. He was the one encouraging me to come with him to church. I will definitely take up that offer once we get back." I smiled and walked to my room to go to sleep.
