S O P H I A
The last thing I remember was Jessie dipping me whilst we were waltzing in the courtyard.
I open my eyes and look around the all-too-quiet room. There was a girl sat in front of a vanity.
I forced my eyes to focus and blinked away the blurring sleep. Her blond curly hair fell perfectly on her back. I instantly knew who it was.Fear struck through my body. I closed my eyes hoping she didn't already know I was awake. But of course she sensed it and turned to face me.
She snickered and I opened my eyes, giving up my sleeping act.
"And she awakes." Hailey rolled her eyes.
I sat up, suddenly cold to the bone. She walked over and chuckled.
"Would you like something to eat or drink?" She asked.
I furrowed my eye brows.
"Why are you being nice all of the sudden?"
"Oh honey, you think I hate you? I actually enjoy your company. It's just... Luke likes you. And I hate him, I love making him miserable. So just put it together." She laughs.
I scoffed and narrowed my eyes at her.
"God, you're so petty. What happened between you two?" I scoffed.
"Let's just call it... sibling rivalry." She muttered. "Anyway, take a shower and get cleaned up. We have somewhere to be tonight at 8." She stood and left the room.
My heart pounded in my chest and I stared at the ceiling. I should just listen to her. After all... she can kill me.
Let's do this.
I sighed and I stood up, making my way to the bathroom and locking the door behind me.
Hailey led me to her car. After getting in, we both put on our seatbelts and began to drive. Silence fell upon us and it grew awkward by the second. It's hard to talk to someone you're afraid of, it's not that much different with me. We arrived at a strange house, it was hard to make out the details because darkness that blanketed it.
The night air hit me with a refreshing breeze that I haven't felt since she took me. As we got closer to the house, I realized that this particular house was Luke's house.
"What are we doing at Luke's house?" I asked.
She immediately shushed me as the door opened and Ashton appeared.
"Oh, hello Hailey..." He scowled. "What do you want?"
He flashed a reassuring smile at me, but quickly became neutral, probably hiding it from Hailey. She laughed, her voice full of wickedness.
"Sour today, are we? Well, tell Luke that I stopped by..." She looked over at me with an amused expression before continuing. "...Oh, and here's a gift for you guys."
I almost didn't process what she said before she shoved me into their house.
"Tell Luke I said it won't be easy next time." With that, she turned on her heels and got into her car. Ashton and I watched as her headlights faded away in the distance. He softly placed a hand on my shoulder and ushered me inside. I felt joy overcome me and I laughed hysterically. Ashton looked at me and furrowed his eye brows.
"Glad to be back?" He asked.
"Oh god, yes. Where's Luke?" I turned towards him with a huge smile on my face.
"I don't know... he left about four hours ago. He hasn't attempted to get in touch with anyone." He looked concerned. "I'm sure he'll be back soon though." He reassured me.
I nodded anxiously.
We spent the next couple hours watching movies and talking about books. Luke finally came home and didn't notice I was here until Ashton pointed it out to him.
He gasped as soon as he noticed me and bear hugged me. I hugged him tight as we held each other.
"Oh my god, Sophia! I freaking missed you..." he whispered in the crook of my neck.
I chuckled and said, "I missed you too, Luke."
