S O P H I A
I woke up entangled in Luke's arms and my hair fell in my face; brushing it behind my ears, I sat up to look at his perfections. He was truly beautiful.
My heart raced thinking about the previous night. Nothing other than dinner happened, but it was the best night I ever had.
I got out of the bed having to get ready for school; pulling on something simple, a white adidas shirt with black skinny jeans. I pulled on my sneakers as Luke still slept. I gently kissed his head.
The school hallway must have been designed by a manic depressive, either that or someone obsessed by grey. The teachers had done their bit, hanging posters in primary colors, yet the overall impression was of drabness. I longed to paint the doors rainbow, or better yet blow off the roof and replace it with a glass dome. I could see plants in pots reaching up for the sunlight and butterflies flitting in between.
BUMP.
I flew into the prison-hued wall; standing still for too long was never a great idea.
"Sorry about that." A feminine voice came out, very Irish. I looked to see a fair skinned girl; her hair was the colour of blue cotton candy while her eyes looked like they could hold the ocean. "I'm Sapphire." She smiled.
"I'm Sophia." I smiled back. "You new here?" I asked as we started walking down the hallway.
"Yeah I'm a transfer student from Ireland." I smiled. So she is Irish.
"How are you finding America?" I asked.
"Different, but I'm getting used to it. You guys have a lot of empty lands." She commented. "What class are ye heading to?"
"Oh I'm just going to English." I smiled.
"With Mrs Jensen?" She asked. I nodded. "I'm heading there too!" She grinned.
I found myself nodding once again, impressed at how confident I was being. I've been away from everything but death for a while.
"Sophia!" I was enveloped in a bear hug from a slightly familiar person. A gasp escaped my chapped lips as I recognized who it was.
"Jessie..." I breathed into the crook of his neck. I was overwhelmed with a flood of emotions. I felt comforted that he was safe, but I felt like I had betrayed him. What happened between Luke and I when I was gone had completely made me forget about the effects it would have on the relationship I have with Jessie. I felt anger and hate towards myself for putting Jessie in danger.
How could I do that to him?He rubbed small circles on the middle of my back with his thumb as we continued our tight hug. Somehow, he made everything better.
"I was so worried..." He whispered into my ear.
"I was too." I answered back, my voice breaking. I felt tears well up in my eyes and this time, I let them escape onto his flannel.
The bell rang which interrupted us. We pulled away and I took a sharp intake of air, sniffling my stuffed nose as I wiped my red eyes. He smiled at me, reassuring but it almost looked fake.
"Let's go." He suggested, grabbing my hand. I nodded in agreement and looked over to Sapphire, who was currently staring at us with a shocked expression. Her mouth agape and her oceanic eyes widened.
"So you two...?" She asked. I nodded, laughing.
She shrugged and smirked at the two of us.
