Trico trembled. His feathers that were once smooth and clean, were now messy and matted with blood. The fury of not being able to kill the Samurais sat within him. The boy was rubbing him softly on the head, with each stroke he would comfort him. The next he knew was that the boy had to pull out his spears. It annoyed Trico. It was painful to feel them get into your skin, but even worse taking them out.  He softly nudged Runako away from him. He got back onto his claws. The boy who was below raced forward towards the bridge inside. "Come here Trico. Let me take those spears out", he called, signaling his finger to come over to him. Obeying the command he sat down letting the boy crawl over him.

Runako felt Trico's feathers over his bare feet. The other end of the spear poked his feet. He looked down at it and pulled it. A tide of red ran out of the wound. Trico let out a high pitched whimper and looked over his broad shoulder. The blood streamed out like a waterfall and down to the ground. It's rank smell flourished into both Trico's and Runako's lungs. It glistened each time it touched the ground. The would wasn't deep enough to overflow, so that was a good thing.  He picked out three more before finishing. He rubbed his hands over the wounds and jumped off.

There was a scent that hung in the air. Grass! There was light streaming into the dark room that Trico and Runako was in. The boy bounded towards the sun's rays and felt the warm air flow past him. A strange growl filled his ears. He turned back to look at Trico. He wasn't growling, but he was at the same time. The beast collapsed onto the ground slowly. At first he seemed in pain or ill, then Runako noticed he was merely hungry.

"Don't worry buddy! I'll find you some barrels", he told Trico rubbing his growling flank.

There was a mine cart in the entrance on a building. With no regrets he pushed it. The cart ran slowly down the tracks and stopped near a gap falling into a separate track. Runako jumped into the gap. The floor tiles glowed blue, butterflies fluttered around, it could only mean one thing. Barrels! Relief flooded over him. There was food for Trico. Once he got to the very bottom of the gap he saw a small cave opening up. That was for sure where the barrels would be! And there it is. The white-blue glow illuminating the ground with the butterflies surrounding it. He picked it up and began to through it up towards the top. His progressed lagged a tad bit, but still  made it to the peak. "Trico! I'm coming!", he called as he got onto the tracks. He picked up the food and balanced around the rims of the track since it didn't have a wooden platform under it. Runako was back out. Trico was curled in a ball like how Runako had left him. The beast wearily picked it's massive head up and peered over. He rotated his whole head around and looked at  the boy with the food in his hands. Trico's mouth watered. He didn't drool though.

Runako placed the barrel at Trico's feet and turned away. "Come on bud. Eat!", he said cheerfully. The beast lunged and let the barrel's juices flow like honey down his throat. The once famished animal was full with energy and health. His feathers fluffed up as he stood on his claws. He jumped around and fiddled with his tail for a bit before roaring at the shut gate.

"I know buddy, I'll get you in!''.

At those words the boy bounded towards the small gap that only he could fit into. He climbed up the mine cart that was near the broken tracks, got onto it,  leaped to a stone platform that was partially enclosed with metal fences, and spotted a handle connected to a chain. He pulled on it letting Trico enter the building with him. The went into a room. Not even Runako could see what obstacles were ahead. That's when he saw a light behind him. Trico's blue horns glowed along with his eyes burning white. He picked Runako up and placed him on his back letting him light the way.

"My hero", the boy whispered sarcastically, as he sat with his legs crossed and his elbow placed on his right knee, then placed his hand on his chin.

That was when Trico leaped and somehow found the room they needed to get to. Runako jumped off once he saw the room enlightened with fiery light. He climbed up the stairs and looked at the old looking gate in front of them. This was where the mirror would have come in handy! But instead Trico head-butted it down. The cold air entered the room along with the scent of mountains. They were high up. That's when he saw something else. An eye.
