As the blue mist faded from Runako's gaze, he turned back to look at Trico to see the color white flash in his eyes one last time. The tired beast seemed calm now that the continued bloodshed was over. There was something off about Trico though. He kept scanning across the animal's face and finally reached his blue horns. The chipped one was growing just like the one next to it. He celebrated a silent congrats to his friend. Then he wondered why the beast had ever befriended him, but the biggest question that was unanswered was: what was the liquid substance contained within the barrels? Why did they glow blue? Cold wind slapped across Runako's face as he emerged back to reality. He looked away from Trico who was focused on what was ahead of them. There was a arched bridge leading to the other side that they had to get to. Well, it wasn't exactly a bridge since the whole middle half of it had collapsed somehow. He looked away from the bridge and into the sky. It seemed to be covered by all the towers and the strange like train railing it had built on top. He turned his attention back to the bridge, and he knew that there was another way to get to their destined area. Runako raced back and found a jaw-bridge cage thing that had crushed Trico's tail in his path. It had gaps that only he could fit in so the beast had to wait outside.
"Don't worry Trico you know I don't take long", the boy told the distressed animal as it whimpered softly. He leaped over some stone fence like railing and looked around the beautiful clearing. There was the peculiar blue butterflies that enclosed the barrels that Runako would get for Trico but strangely enough there was no barrels, but a square crate. He looked closer and saw around three barrels laid inside. There was a presence with him in the same area. Scared but curious, he turned his head and saw Trico.
"How'd you get in here? Did you just jump over the building without me noticing?", the boy exclaimed.
Trico padded towards another crate with barrels and Runako followed close behind. "Can you break this? Trico?", he asked the beast. At the call of it's name he sat neatly with his tail curled around his talons and sat there looking at the crate and at the boy. The child let out an exaggerated sigh. "I can't break it I'm too small! You break it!", he protested. But Trico sat there still like, almost like a statue.
"Okay, just-".
Crash!
"Yeah! There you go!".
Trico looked down at the barrels and slowly began to reach his muzzle in to eat them.
"Now you can eat for days!", Runako teased. The beast lunged in for the 'kill' and ate them slowly one by one, and each one his eyes glowed white as he puffed out his chest like he was strong. After finishing the barrels Trico had not found a way out. But the two had come so far together, and in so they had developed a closer and new bond. A mutual understanding that offered both of them a chance of escape. Runako looked up. An idea blazed in his mind. They had to go up! There was a pillar that Trico could climb up to and lead them both out. In that case Runako was already on his back and commanding him to go up. Instead the beast placed his head on the pillar and let the boy get on first."Okay now how are you goin-".
He was not able to finish his sentence because of Trico. The simple animal had leaped up and knocked the boy over. He grasped on the ledge holding onto dear life as he looked at the ground. He gripped onto Trico's tail and got back on. He was on the beast's head now and jumped off onto a nearby plat form. He ran up the stairs meanwhile he called Trico's name over his shoulder. He went into a strange arch. What made it strange was that it was sort of a mandala design or something like that. On the other side of that tunnel there was a lever but also a new view. Yet another jaw-bridge cage.
When the weight was applied to the lever it opened the jaw-bridge.
"Oh no...Trico's not gonna like this!".
The beast slowly entered through the now open entrance and looked up at the boy.
"I still have no idea how you got in there. But oohh-", he began as he looked over his shoulder. "-I see a barrel over there! On that ledge!".The animal seemed to understand as it crouched down ready to leap up. Runako got on Trico just in time. But all Trico did was peek in, not able to reach the food. The boy mandatorily got onto the creature's snout and got to the beast's muzzle. "Oh, God I'm right on your nose! Woo!", he cried happily as Trico put a talon in to try to get the barrel.
"Lemme get it for ya!", Runako insisted as he bounced off Trico's nose and threw the barrel into Trico's mouth. The boy mounted back onto the beast then noticed something odd about the bridge. It was the same bridge that had a collapsed. But now that Trico understood and cooperated better then he could leap over to the other side! It was a perfect plan. Runako insisted to Trico to go forwards. He pointed his finger to the other side. There was a problem too. Trico's wings were short and Runako was sure he couldn't fly. Hoping that they wouldn't die Trico flapped him miniature wings and leaped over to the other side without dying.
"Okay Trico another obstacle will be laid ahead of us! Onward we go!".
