Genesis' POV

"Thanks Mom! Hope your appointment goes well! I'll see you at seven!" I yelled as I went to the doors of the dance studio. She waved back to me as she pulled the car out of the dance studio parking lot. While I was at dance for five hours, she was at an appointment for the baby. She was gonna find out the gender!

I came into the studio and signed myself in, then went to the dancer's lounge. I was there with two of the other girls on the team: Alaina who is eleven, and Brynn who is nine. "Hey guys!" I said as I started to change into my dance wear. "Hey, we get our assignments for the competition at the beginning of September!" Brynn said excitedly. "YAS!" I said ridiculously, causing the three of us to laugh.

Eventually the whole team was there and we went to our main studio for assignments and stretching. "Hello, hello ladies." Miss Cambrie said as she entered the studio shortly after us. "Miss Cambrie!" we all shouted and hugged her. We loved her as a coach, she was the best we ever had. "Hey guys, back up! I got assignments to give!" she laughed.

We came back and stood in a line across from her. "Alright guys, so on the fifth of September we are attending Intensity dance competition, where we will have one group dance, three solos, and one duet. I want a clean sweep." Cambrie said firmly. "Alright for solos, they go to Brynn, doing a contemporary solo entitled: Lonesome Dove.  Kayla, doing an acro-jazz routine called: The Phoenix.  And finally, Tessa , doing a contemporary routine entitled: Lullaby."

"Now as far as the duet is concerned, I will be needed a little bit of special help." Cambrie stated as she went to the studio door.  And in walked Jaxon, commonly known as Jax.  He was our best guy dancer in the studio.  "Now the duet goes to Jaxon, and Genesis." She said.  My jar nearly hit the floor.  I was so excited and had kind of a lil crush on him.  "This upbeat jazz dance is entitled: Shut Up And Dance.  And there is a twist, Jax and Gen.  At the end of this dance, you two will kiss.  On the lips."

Now I was totally freaking in the exact opposite way. Jax is hot, and I mean hot! I kinda like him, and I know he likes me. He grinned so I could only take that for what it's worth. "Alright now for the group dance, it is a musical theatre number entitled 'Footloose' which I know you all love." Cambrie said. Okay so yay Footloose themed dance, but eww kissing.

After assignments we all started stretching. Jax started stretching next to me making it way more awkward. "Listen, it's just as weird for me as it is for you. But you know, maybe you'll like it?" He teased. I rolled my eyes and turned away towards Tessa. "Help me!" I mouthed to her. And all that girl did was smile a big cheesy grin and keep stretching.

The duet was, of course, the first to rehearse. Lucky for me we were only learning the first half today and then later would be for the last half. "Okay, so Jax, extend your arm and like do the thing with your hand like 'come here', and then Gen your gonna side sashay across to him." Cambrie said as she started our dance again. I went across to Jax and then began the footwork.

"Good guys, now Gen can you send Tessa in for her solo?" Cambrie asked after we had worked for two hours. We got a little over half done, and thank goodness no kissing! But the part that stunk was that I had to tell Tessa how awkward it was, but she has to go do her solo! I sent Tessa in to the 'A Studio' and sat in the den with the other girls. Jax was leaving since he didn't have to do the group dance.

"Did you guys kiss?!" Everyone immediately started asking. "No, and thank goodness! I can't kiss him, he likes me!" I nearly gagged. "Genny and Jaxon sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" They all started chanting out. "Shut up!" I laughed. They decided to give me a break and we started talking about other stuff, like competitions, other dancers, and eventually the ALDC came up.

"Did you guys hear that Abby is scouting you and Tessa?" Alaina quipped. "Really, where'd you hear that?" We all asked. "Last competition, she was sitting right behind me and when you beat Mackenzie and JoJo, I thought her jaw was gonna hit the floor!" Alaina told us. She had to sit out last competition because of an ankle injury.

"That's insane, that at the same competition I beat them, Tessa beat Maddie!" I said, still remembering the crazy hype we had after beating them. Our studio had never beaten someone in the ALDC, let alone three in one competition. I beat Mackenzie and JoJo in the junior solos with my lyrical solo 'Blown Away' and Tessa beat Maddie in an improv solo. But Tessa is a really good improv dancer.

"Yeah apparently they are gonna be at this one, California prelims, and then Nationals." Brynn said. "Provided we make it to Nationals." Kayla sighed. It was hard to go to Nationals in California, we've only been to Nationals maybe half the times we tried to make it through. "We can only hope that we beat them again!" I said, but truly was nervous learning that information. Abby was scouting us?! We were a small studio that only went to maybe ten competition each season, has only had ten title holders in the history of the studio, and almost always got beat by bigger studios. We were nothing special.

But, maybe we were, and we just didn't know it quite yet.
