Genesis' POV
"Alright, we'll run that one more time and then cut to break." The man from outside the booth said through the mic. I gave him a thumbs up and waited for my track to begin. It was the end of July and seriously hot outside, so I was glad to be inside the air conditioned recording studio today!
I was in the studio recording my holiday EP for this Christmas. It had three songs on it that I wrote myself for the holidays. Yeah, it's only July, but better to plan ahead and be ready! The songs were 'A Christmas Tree' , 'Just Another Night' , and one cover: 'Oh Holy Night'. Okay, so one that I didn't write.
I adjusted the headphones on my head and heard my song start up. It was my most recently written Christmas song, Just Another Night. I wrote it because I just couldn't imagine spending Christmas without any of my family, but I guess it could also be taken as kind of a love song. The acoustic guitar part started and I started up my voice.
"It's just another night!" I sang the last part of the song as my track came to an end. I smiled as my mixer at the sound board gave me the go sign that I could leave the booth for break. I stepped out of the foam covered sound booth and went to the little lounge area, I was the only one there today which was a little weird I guess. In fact, the whole team I was working with seemed a little weird today, even Mom!
I took a pop out of the mini fridge and heard the door open behind me, it was Mom. "Hey, you sounded awesome!" She said. "Thanks." I told her as we hugged. "Yeah, you honestly sounded better than me." Another voice said. Mom moved to the side and I almost started screaming.
"Oh my God, you're Kelsea Ballerini!" I yelled. She started laughing and came up to hug me. I was freaking out, she was one of my favorite singers! I just did a cover of her song, 'Love Me Like You Mean It' two weeks ago. "Wh-why are you here?!" I asked her. "Well I saw your cover of my song and I just had to meet you! You are so talented! You have like two million hits!" She told me and I blushed profusely.
"Thank you so much!" I told her. She started telling me how she wanted to be one of the first people to buy my album when it came out. "Oh you'll get a signed copy!" I told her out of pure excitement. "Awesome! So I wanted to ask you something. Do you wanna sing 'Love Me Like You Mean It' together?" She asked as she gestured to the guitar bag she had slung over her shoulder.
"I'd love to! Totally!" I told her smiling. Before I knew it she had her tamed guitar out and checking her tuning together while Mom was there recording it. "You know I remember when I was her age and I got to meet Taylor Swift, and it was so fun. It's just fun to sing with people right?" She said I just sat there smiling like an idiot, still in shock that I was with the Kelsea Ballerini!
She started strumming her guitar when we were both ready. She gave me a little signal when to start singing, and I thought she would join in, but I just ended up going solo!
She joined in on the last 'love me like you mean it' and it was so much fun! "I'm never singing that song again! Only you girl!" She said and I started to laugh a little. "That was so much fun!" She said and I agreed with her. This was amazing I was singing with one of my icons! I guess nobody thinks that celebrities have have people they idolize because they are supposed to be the icon, but seriously I'm almost as bad of a fan girl as my mom!
Kelsea said she didn't have to leave right away, and since I was on break for two hours, we just hung out in the lounge together with mom. It was a lot of country music talk, Nashville, other singers we love and that kinda stuff. As far as other country singers we love, Carrie Underwood came up a lot and how we both listened to her pretty much since she was was on American Idol.
"We need to hang out more, you are so fun!" She told me. "You are too, I never thought we would have so much in common!" I told her laughing. "I know like seriously, you look like a mini me!" She said. And with that we squished our faces together and Mom laughed saying, "See? Now if you ever have a TV show were you need someone to play an older you, you got a look alike!"
I went way over my break, but I'm pretty sure the producers were okay with it since they seemed to be way in on it! Pretty much the rest of the day was spent with just the three of us hanging out. We talked about everything: music, movies, song ideas, other singers and actors, Castle (which apparently she is also a big fan of!), and anything else!
It was so sad when Kelsea had to go, but we made sure to take close to probably one hundred pictures and post them on all of our social media. She even followed me on my Twitter and Instagram! We hugged each other goodbye when her car showed up and then once she left I hugged my mom for getting her to visit me.
I then posted the picture of us to Instagram. I had my tongue sticking out and she had he duck lips thing going on.
