The Road To Nationals

Genesis' POV

I walked into the dance studio with my head held high.  I loved walking into the studio because it was like my home away from home.  I was wearing my brand new red and black dance wear set and my hair and makeup were, in short, on fleek!

Mom was kinda waddling behind me.  The baby was due in less than a month, and despite me telling her that she didn't have to come and stay, she decided to stay and watch me dance.  She also claimed that she had to make sure Tori and Stella didn't do anything crazy while they were dancing.  Well their dance is mostly just acro, jazz, and ballet training.  That's all the Petite group really does,

"Hey Genny!" Brynn said as I came into the dancer's lounge.  "Hey Brynn!" I said as I started taking off my sweatshirt to reveal my dance wear.  "Cambrie said she had good news today!" Brynn squeaked.  I was excited for that.  Good news usually meant something amazing for us.  I waited in the lounge until the whole Junior-Teen competition team had arrived: Tessa, Alaina, Kayla, August, and Parker-Kate.  Parker-Kate is the oldest at thirteen and Brynn is the youngest at nine, the rest of us are the ages between.

"Girls!  Studio C!" one of the dance teachers called to us.  We rushed into the studio and waited against the wall for Cambrie.  When she entered, she had a folder and a huge folder.  "Hello ladies." she said and we responded back with a 'Hi' or 'Hello'.  "So, I have amazing news from Starbound Dance Competition.  Since you all placed within the top ten at the competition two weeks ago, you have all qualified for Starbound Nationals in New York City!" Cambrie yelled.

We all started screaming and jumping up and down.  We have qualified for Nationals before, but only some of us.  Never had the whole team made it!  I was so stoked to be going to New York City, last time I went it was for the Mockingjay Part 2 premier and we were only their for less than 24 hours.  "Please tell me we get to go down the day before!" Parker-Kate begged.  "You guys will go down the day before the competition!" Cambrie squealed.  We were all so excited.

"Okay, so that aside, I am so proud of you all for how you placed at the last competition.  I didn't get to talk a whole lot about that after the competition.  Just so much was going on with the other groups.  Actually the a few minis and the a select few from the senior competition team qualified for Nationals too, so there's gonna be like three or four buses going to New York!" Cambrie sighed.  She was talking really fast.  She must be super excited that almost all her competition dancers had made it.

"Do we get our National dances today?" Kayla asked.  "Yes!  I was going to have you guys do another competition in Nevada in two weeks, but Nationals is going to be taking up all our time.  So who's ready for their assignments?" Cambrie taunted.  We all screamed yes with excitement.

"Okay so the group dance is called: Paint it Black.  Very dark and creepy, you will all be included in it.  Solos go to Parker-Kate, Genesis, and August.  Parker-Kate your solo is contemporary called 'Somebody Help Me'.  Genesis your solo is lyrical called 'A Thousand Years'.  August your solo is going to be an acrobatic routine called 'The Heathen Next To You'." Cambrie took a brether before continuing.

I was so happy to get a solo, but also felt bad for the girls who didn't.  They are all amazing dancers, so I hope they get like a special part in the group dance or get like in a duo or trio.  I understand Cambrie has to choreograph all these dances just on her own with little help, but I just wish it could all be equal. "Okay know for duets and trios.  Tessa, Alaina, and Kayla you all have a trio called 'Too Hot To Handle' in the jazz category.  And I have one more dance, which is a duet..." Cambrie trailed off suspiciously.  Oh boy, what does this woman have up her sleeve?

"Genesis, since you and Jaxon pretty much slayed the last competition with your killer duet, I am putting you two in another duet." she said with an evil smile.  I sarcastically groaned.  Was I excited to do a duet, solo, and be in the group dance?  Totally!  But another duet with Jaxon?  Oh, boy.  "Is he here now?" I asked.  "He's in the other room taking a hip-hop class." Cambrie answered.  "Your duet is called 'Extra-Terrestrial Love'.  No, in this dance you will not be kissing, but it is supposed to be hot and intense.  Pretend like you guys are madly in love." Cambrie laughed at the last part as I groaned.

Brynn cautiously raised her hand.  "Yes, Brynn?" Cambrie said.  "Do I get a solo or duet or something?" Brynn shakily asked.  "Well Brynn, you actually do not have anything in this division.  Because you are small but old enough to comprehend choreography, you will be a part of two senior company dances.  You will be featured in their group dance, and be in a duet with Sarah Pozey." Cambrie said.  Brynn's look became instantly happier and we were all proud of her. 

"Okay ladies the competition is December 17th.  I know that seems like a long while away from now, right around three months away.  But I am taking that time to be sure that every dance is perfect.  I am putting together about fifteen dances to take to New York, that's going to take a lot of my time.  So, if you ever find yourself not busy while you are here, wither waiting to work on a dance or between classes, I would love it if you guys could help with some of the other classes." Cambrie said.

"Alright, that all being said, go stretch and then we will start working on the group dance." Cambrie said.  We all exited the studio to go grab the different things we used to stretch with.  "OMG!  This is awesome!  We're going to New York!" August squealed.  "Yeah, and I get to dance with the seniors?!  Talk about dream come true!" Brynn gushed.  "Do you guys think the ALDC will be back after the butt-kicking we gave them at the last competition?" Tessa slyly remarked.  "If they do show up, they're gonna wish they hadn't!" Parker-Kate said.

I was kinda staying quiet.  I was afraid.  I have a solo, duet, and a group dance to perform, along with the movie audition looming over my head.  Was I putting too much on my plate?  Mom also had the baby on the way, and I already have two younger sisters.  Could I handle it all?  I mean I have before, this should be no different, right?
