Genesis' POV
It's the day that I'm supposed to be at this hotel convention center to find Margot's replacement. She ended up messaging me on Instagram saying she was really upset she couldn't do the movie. I told her I understood, and we ended up talking for about thirty minutes.
I stayed the night at the hotel the night before with mom and my other sisters. It was a little mini vacation for us. While I would be at the casting today, they would be off doing whatever.
"Morning." I said as I entered the cast room. There was the director, two producers, and me in the room. "Morning Genesis." The director, John Marcus Grey, who I had met with a few times before, said. "You get a look at some of the contenders?"
I nodded. There were about twenty or thirty actresses in the room. I noticed a few but didn't really look because I was walking in with mom. When we walked in, the director had joked about offering mom the role.
"This is her movie. Let this be the only Lawrence. I can't deal with her that long." She had chuckled.
"So what's happening? When do we start?" I asked. Ten minutes was my answer and I took my spot at the long table where my name was on a little paper note card: Genesis Lawrence as Olympia.
I smiled as I saw my character name. I loved that name and it was gonna be great in the "Wild Child" movie. I texted my agent really quick that I was here and she gave me the thumbs up emoji.
"Number 1, you may enter the room. Numbers 2 through 5, please be ready." The director said over the P.A. system to the holding room.
I looked at my cast list of contenders and ran through the names. There were some pretty well known actresses here! Between the four cities they did casting in, it was narrowed down to 23.
The first lady came in and from the beginning I knew it wouldn't work. That's actually how it was with the first ten. It was either personality, or the look was wrong, or we just didn't have chemistry together.
The directors were already crossing off names as we went. Luckily the better and more well known people were toward the bottom half if the list. Names that stood out to me were Bridgit Mendler, Shannon Woodward, Sarah Hyland, and Shailene Woodley. Of course they saved the best for literally the best for last as these were literally the last four people on the list.
Readings went better with these people. A star got put next to Shannon's name, and we were at the last person to come in. "Alright last one. Shailene Woodley, Age 25." The director said. I nodded and flicked the green button that would signal outside that it was good for her to come in.
When Shailene entered it was like a light turned on. She walked in and there was an aura of confidence. John and I exchanged a look as she approached the panel desk. "Hi, I'm Shailene Woodley." she said as she came down the row and shook everyone's hand. Now I've gotten better about meeting celebrities, but I'm still a teenage girl. So when she came to me I told her, "Big fan." as I shook her hand. "Likewise." she responded.
"Alright, so are you aware of what part you are auditioning for?" John asked her as Shai walked to the white 'X' made with tape on the carpet. "Yes, Lauren Vitani. Author and foster mother of Olympia?" she asked to see if she was correct. But it was like a confident questioning, like she knew the answer but was just being polite.
John nodded his head and then gave her the breakdown that he had given the 23 other auditionees. "Okay, so Genesis is gonna come up there with you and it's mostly chemistry. Olympia has no lines in this scene, it's mainly about how you interact with her while you would be talking to the behavioral therapist, LeeAnn. I'll be reading for her."
