Chapter 36

* fast forward 6 years later*
Jay and Hailey were back together with a 3 year old at home. Another girl, Brooke. Peyton was now 12.
Jay POV:

"Peyton, get ready for school." I yelled up the stairs
" you goin into work today?" Hales asked
" yeah, you?"
" no not feelin too good. I already called hank."
"Okay well can you watch Brooke or do we need to give her to Will?"
" no I can watch her."
" okay well than I'm off."

At work:

" that was an easy case." Atwater said and everyone stared at him "sorry" he said.
I checked my phone and saw that I had 10 missed calls from haley.
"Everything alright?" Erin asked and I just shrugged my shoulders
Platt came upstairs. "jay you're wife's on line 1 you might want to pick this up." She said
" I guess not." I said and picked up the line.
"Hales everything okay?"
" no."
" what do you mean no?" Everyone was gathered around at this time. Erin hit the speaker button so they could listen.
"Jay, our daughter didn't come home from school and when I went to the school they said some guy came and picked her up."
" haley... what was his name."
"They wouldn't give me the name even though I'm her mother." I could tell she was crying
"This is our case now. Bring haley in. We need all the information we can get." Hank said when I looked at him.
" hales..."
" I heard I'm comin in with Brooke."
" drop her off with Will I just texted him."
Haley got here and I hugged her tight. " we'll find her hales I promise."
" okay well Atwater and ruzek are on their way back from the school and they got a name." Hank said hugging both of us. They walked in.
They gave us a hug.
" whatcha find." I said
" Robert Alexander Mendez we arrested his brother just last week for a DUI." Ruzek said
" wait I remember him. " I said
"Yeah well let's take a ride and see what this guy is up to. Erin, Antonio." Hank said.
They brought him in and I went into the interrogation room with Erin, Antonio, and hank.
" Jay?" Mendez asked and he laughed
" something funny?" Erin asked
" yeah he always said the next time I saw him would be jail." He said
" but who knew the crime you would've committed wasn't gonna be drug dealing but taking my 12 year old daughter?!"
" what? What are you talking about? I didn't even know you had a kid!"
" Mendez im not here playing games."
" neither am I."
Hank grabbed him by the jar and you could see Mendez in pain.
"A cop popped your brother for a DUI and for him you retaliate by taking that cops daughter out of school. But here's where you fucked up. You wrote your name in the log out book. But why? Are you just that dumb or were you working with someone?"
" I don't know what you're talking about! I didn't even know he had a kid!" Mendez yelled and Hank slapped him.
"Boss. We need you." Atwater said
"Stay." I said
" where would I go." Mendez mouthed back "Mendez's boss is his alibi said he was at work until we brought him in. That was his lunch break." Ruzek said
" And hes smarter than putting his own name down documented." I said
" so what are you saying?" Erin asked
" I'm saying somebody who knows Mendez put his name down to take the fall. "
"Let's take a look into it. Go talk to Mendez." Hank said and I walked in.
" okay it's just you and me now Mendez. You're boss just came through for your alibi. So, who'd you run into lately. Maybe you were gonna retaliate but you needed help. Who did you go to."
"Nobody."
" MENDEZ STOP YANKING MY BALLS AND TELL ME WHO THE HELL TOOK MY TWELVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL AND PUT YOUR DUMBASS ON PAPER."
" look around maybe they're closer than you think."
I tipped his chair back.  Hank walked in.
" jay." He said. Erin and Antonio walked in too.
" let me tell you something Mendez. If I don't find my daughter I'll slowly kill you. Piece by piece like that kid you killed 15 years ago. "
" they never found her killer jay ."  He said
" I did and your dumbass will fall for it too. I'll give you five seconds to tell me who you've been talking to lately before I throw your ass to the wolves."
" Jason Morandi. Has had it out for the cops for a long time. Then he heard about my brother and thought maybe you should feel the loss of something."
" where is he."
" I don't know"
I picked his ass up and threw him at the wall.
" JAY" Erin yelled
" WHERE IS HE MENDEZ"
" Mendez where does he hang out? Where have you met before? You tell me and I cut you a deal and you only go for a ride of accomplishing a kidnap instead a full blown kidnap." Hank said
" the only place I've been with him is downtown at the Barista on west Kyleson."

We ran into the barista and there he was there morandi. He saw us and began to run. 
" GO" i yelled.
He went around back and through any alley he could. He tried to climb a ladder but I grabbed him by the ankles and yanked his ass down.  Everyone was around me by now and I had a gun to him.
" jay." Ruzek said
" jay if you kill him you don't find your daughter." Erin said
" yeah jay if you kill me you won't find Peyton."
I jammed the gun farther " where is she." I said
" jay we just got the address to where he meets with his guys. People reported of a girl screaming".  Erin said.
Ruzek put a hand on my shoulder " come on let's go get her. Haley's already on her way over with burgess."
" get up. Now. Hands behind your back." I said and pushed him into the car. When we got to the building we went in. And there was a locked door. Attic. I shot at the lock and pulled the door down and we went up. There she was all tied up and scared. Shaking. Crying.
" oh my god P!" I said and ruzek untied her. I gave her s huge hug.
" I'm so sorry p."
" Peyton." Haley said and P ran to her and haley held her so tight she wasn't gonna let her go. 
She gave a hug to ruzek " thanks Adam. "
" anytime kiddo I'm glad you're okay."
" Antonio. Thank you." She said giving him a hug 
" you scared us kid. We love you."
" al. Thank you."
" always."
" kevin thank you."
" hey that's what we're here for. We would always come lookin for you."
" Erin. I can't thank you enough."
" hey now you're my goddaughter. I couldn't just lose you. I love you kid."
" Hank. Thank you. I can't say how much I am thankful that you took on looking for me. I hope to work for you some day. Thank you."
" you're family P. We'd do it for any one of us."
" let's get you home. You've had a long day." I said and we all headed back to headquarters.
