Chapter 16

Big Rich was brought in.
Erin and I and Hank were in the interrogation room with him.

"What's your relationship with Steven Nichols?" I asked and he just laughed

" You tell that little bitch he owes me some money when you catch him."

" 100 grand worth." Hank said

"Where's Steven?" Erin asked

" How am I supposed to know? He's been in the wind since he got out of jail. He sent his cop brother to do the dirty work."

"Then you shot him." I said

" I didn't shoot his brother. But I heard someone got him."

" Listen you have one chance and one chance only. Tell us everything you know and help us find Steven and you may get some of your money and split the time downstown with Steven or keep playing these games and I tag homicide on your ass and you go down all by yourself and I spread you money around with the word on the street that you shot a cop with no protective custody." Hank said.

" He got the wrong brother." He said

" Who?" I asked

" His name is Dirty Dan. He gets 15% cut for the hit. I told him steven but he got his brother instead. He said that he never saw it coming. When I heard he got the wrong brother I dropped his cut down to 10%. Now he's after Steven. His brother was never supposed to get the bullet." he said

We walked out.

"everybody suit up. Bring Steven back here alive."

We went to Steven's apartment on the outside of the city. We knocked and when we knocked the door down he ran. I tackled him and put him in handcuffs.

Down at the station....

"Haley what are you doing?" He asked

Jay, Erin, Justin, and Hank were in there with him.

" You said you were done. No more dealing." Justin said

" I don't keep promises Justin you know that. Plus you made it perfectly clear that I was to not ever come near you again if I started up again."

" Why don't you tell us what happened with the money steven before i bring in your brother." Hank said and Kevin walked in.

"Kevin, he was never supposed to get killed he was just supposed to drop it off and go not stick around."

" HE GOT SHOT STEVEN. HE'S DEAD. HIS WIFE IS PREGNANT WITH HIS CHILD THAT NOW HAS TO GROW UP WITHOUT A DAD AND SHE GETS TO TELL HIM THAT HIS UNCLE GOT HIS DAD SHOT!" Kevin yelled.

" Wheres the money Steven?" I asked

" I lost it. So i gave them the fake money. The guy got the wrong Nichols. He's coming for me"

" We already booked him Steven." Hank said

" What?"

" We got him for killing a cop."Erin said

" Why did you do it?" I asked

" I didn't do anything Haley!"

" YOU GOT YOUR BROTHER KILLED, STEVEN!"

" Im sorry.Im so sorry."

We booked him and then we all went outside because Kate came to pick up Matt's things. Everybody was outside. EMS, Firefighters, police, everybody. The chief  was standing up front.

"ATTENTION" He yelled.

"PRESENT ARMS" and we all saluted as she walked. She stopped in front of me and I opened the car door and gave her a hug. She got in the car and drove away.

"ORDER ARMS" he said and we all went back to standing position. Jay looked at me and a tear rolled down my face. The rest of the night we hung out with everyone and went to mollys. We drank to Matt and his family and for a healthy life for his baby.We drank to forever having eachother's backs.
