Chapter 35

Hales POV:

I headed into work while jay brought P to school. I walked into hank's office cause he called me telling me he needed to speak to me. I walked in.
"Do you want the door closed?" I asked as the guys started to walk in
" assume I always want it closes."
"Okay, tough guy..." I said closing the door " you called?"
" yeah you sure you can handle this?"
" yeah I'm back Voight I promise."
" I'll hold you to it. Just remember hands in the pockets if you start shaking."
" you got it searg." I said " and I'll assume you want your door closed"
" goodbye haley" he said as i walked out
" what's that about?" Jay asked
" just checking on me."
Then we got a case. Bombs. We headed out and did what we always do. When it came down to finding the people we geared up and hit the road again.
" Lindsay you got eyes?" Voight asked
" negative no movement."
" ruzek?" He asked
" negative.  How much time is on the car?"
" 20 minutes we gotta get these guys before it goes off." Antonio said
" bomb squad is on it right now. Let's breach and take the stairs as a group." Voight said
We ran in and headed up. We knocked a door down to see 5 guys staring at a screen to see outside through the cameras.
" CHICAGO PD HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!" Jay yelled and one guy tried to push past me
" he meant you too asshole." I said and spun him around and handcuffed him.
" nice work hales." Ruzek said
" you too."
We headed downstairs and handed the guys off to patrol.
Hank walked up to me " Hey. You alright?" He asked. I showed him that my hand wasn't shaking.
" solid." I said
" tough guy." He said smiling and we walked back to our cars.
We briefed back at headquarters and we all went home
" you sure you're okay?" Jay asked
" jay, I'm fine. If i wasn't I'd let you know."
" you promise?"
" yes now I'm gonna go put my daughter to bed. Goodnight." I said
" goodnight. Tell P I'll be up in a minute." He said
" you got it."
I walked into P's room and she was already lying down.
" you up for a talk?" I asked her and she nodded her head.  "P, I don't know how you feel about me being home all the time but it might happen sooner than later."
" why?" She asked sitting up
" well, mommy and daddy's job is really hard. It's tiring physically, emotionally, and mentally. I just don't know how much more of it I can take."

Jay POV:

I heard everything she said. Was she thinking about early retirement? Desk duty? Leaving entirely? I knocked on the wall.
" can dad come in?" I asked and they both laughed
" hey P, do you feel safe with your parents being cops even though you may not see them all the time?"
" yes." She said
" you would tell us if something was wrong right?"
"Yes."
" alright that's all I wanted to know goodnight little girl I'll see you in the morning. I love you P."
" goodnight love you too."
We walked out.
" how much did you hear?" Hales asked
" everything."
" you want me to explain?"
" no. I want to go to bed. I want you to explain tomorrow."
