Chapter 6

"it's freezing out here. What are we doing exactly?" I asked jay
" not working." He laughed.
" then why did you wake me up so early to come sit outside with you?" I asked
" cause I wanted to talk to you."
" in the cold?"
" yes."
" okay..."
" you and Borelli are really giving it a try."
" yeah we are."
" hes treating you right?"
" yes jay you would be the first to know if he wasn't."
" all I'm asking."
My phone bleeped.
" who is it?" Jay asked
" Erin."
" she okay?"
" yeah just wants to see me. Says Kelly's at her apartment."
" let's go."

At the apartment...

We knocked on the door and she opened it.
" come in." She said
" Erin what's going on." Jay said
" he's been here all night." She said and the apartment was trashed with beer bottles. I sighed and called Casey. He showed up with gabby.
" I got him." Matt said and he brought him back to his apartment.
We went to the firehouse.
" hey hales." Jimmy said
" hey." I said and he kissed me. Jay turned around.
" you know I think I'm gonna head to the station see if they need an extra patrolman"
" jay..." I said
" no im good. Just can't sit around here all day that's all."
I looked at jimmy
" go ahead." He said
" thank you." I said and kissed him.
" JAY HALSTEAD!" I yelled
" what do you want from me Haley."
" excuse me?"
" you think I'm gonna be happy you're dating this guy?"
" this guy? Jay you know jimmy."
" I thought it was our time. You left because things were getting different between us and Camille died. Does he know that?"
" yes jay he does know."
" unbelievable. It took you 6 months and a dozen phone calls for you to tell me but you tell him right away."
" jay..."
" maybe you told kelly right. Stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours."
" whatever jay. Go get drunk like kelly and never speak to me again got it?"
I turned around as soon as he did. I wiped a tear from my eye.
" Haley...."
" goodbye jay." I said back and walked inside.
" hey you okay?"  Jimmy asked. I began to cry again. I wiped away the tears as he came up to me.
" I'm fine borelli." I said and pushed him away.
" borelli? Haley wait up." He said
" jimmy why don't you let us take this. Come on Erin." Matt said
" I'm coming too." Gabby said
I was standing outside and they came out.
" come on hales it's cold come inside." Erin said
" no im gonna walk home." I said
" no you're not. Hales what's going on." Matt said
" he's right." I said
" who is?" Gabby asked
" jay."
" hales..." Erin said
" no I knew it was gonna be hard seeing him again but I took the job anyway. We're always gonna be in love and I came back anyway. I think I'm gonna head back to cincinatti. Kelly's mad at me and now jay. Maybe I should just do what they said and stay out of their way."
" no hales you're not leaving again. You're staying here. We need you here. Everything will work out I promise."Matt said
" jays just being an ass he'll get over it."  Gabby said
" I hope so." I said then my phone went off.

From Jay:

Can we talk later? Don't run this time.

To Jay:

I'll come by later.

Later on....

I had stopped by jays apartment. My phone bleeped again.

From Kelly:

I heard. Can we talk?

To Kelly:

No.

From Kelly:

Are you okay?

To kelly:

No.

Jay opened the door.
"Thanks for coming."
" did I have a choice?"
" hales..."
" what?"
" I'm really sorry i was such an ass before. I shouldn't have flipped out on you. You never did with my previous girlfriends and you start dating borelli and I just got jealous and I'm sorry. I love you hales and I don't want you to run again."
" jay I'm not going anywhere. When I say something I mean it."
" okay so we're good?"
" we're not just good after you apologize jay you told me to stay out of your life. I lost my brother and you say the same thing he did?"
" I know I'm sorry I should be punched for that I was mad and it was in the heat of the moment. I regret it hales I'm sorry I never meant to hurt you."
" yeah well you did."
" I know I'm really sorry hales. Forgive me?" He pouted
" fine. You're forgiven."
He gave me a hug.

At jimmys apartment...

" how'd it go with jay?" He asked
" fine. What are you doing?"
" watching a show. Come watch."
I sat next to him and then the door knocked. I looked at him and he went to open it.
" I don't think this is the right time." I heard him say
" move over borelli it's my sister in there." Kelly.
I stood up.
" hales come home." He said
" no. What are you doing here."
" I came to apologize."
" good for you. Now get out."
" Haley"
" kelly I'm not in the mood."
" please hales."
" you told me to stay out of your life, said things that weren't supposed to be said they were secrets and then made a scene at the bar and said you never wanted to see me again so what do you want kelly."
" I want my sister to not hate me."
" go find another sister."
" hales please. I'm really sorry. Hurting you is the last thing I wanna do. I love you and I want to protect you but you're not letting me."
" not letting you?! You were an ass kelly so no I didn't let you " protect me" I needed a brother kelly."
" I was trying to be one."
" no you try to be my parent when I don't need that."
" what do you need then hales."
" I need you to be my brother. I need you to be there for me and understand what's going on. I need you not to judge and tell me everything will be alright in the end. I need you to be proud and happy and support me. Can't you just do that kelly?"
" I love you hales and I am proud and happy for you and I do support you. I want to be your big brother. I am.  But you're my little sister. You're the only thing I got. You have to understand that."
" you're the only thing I got too kelly."
" I love you hales I'm sorry. Forgive me lil sis?"
" I love you too." I said and we hugged.
