Isn't it ironic that at chapter four, I change the POV from Tobias? I do not own any of the characters in the Divergent series.
Also, this chapter is dedicated to the awesome TheFaults_21 - also in our Divergent Group. She is the Erudite Leader!!!!!!!!!!!
CHAPTER FOUR
CHRISTINA POV
I lull around, looking out of the window of my apartment in the Hancock building. From this high up, I can see everything from the marsh to the river. I haven’t left my room in a long while.
I walk out the door that leads into my apartment and scour the hallways for any sign of life. Everyone that lives here stays inside, scavenging for memories of their loved ones, many currently no longer in existence. I think Zeke is the worst though, with Shauna disabled and Uriah dead. His mom went to go live by herself above the Chasm.
I walk over to Zeke and Shauna’s apartment across the hall and knock on their door. Inside, I can hear shuffling feet as Zeke tries to reach the door.
“Hey,” Zeke says, opening the door slightly.
“Hey,” I say back, not knowing how to say what I want. “I’m going over to the cemetery to see Will-I was wondering if you want to come with… to see…”
“Sure, I guess… might be fun…” he says, forming a small smirk, but it is not what it used to look like, it will never be genuine. “I’ll go get ready.”
Zeke closes the door, leaving me alone in the hallway. I sit, leaning on the wall beside the door. This life is so hard. Every moment with anyone is awkward, and there are scars on every person in this new life. I wish that we could live life back the way it was before the fence, before the attack on Abnegation, before that Choosing Ceremony two years ago.
The door opens again, and I see Shauna in her new braces with Zeke, wearing his old faction colors, behind her.
“We’re ready to go,” Zeke says.
I lead the way down the hallway towards the elevator doors. I jam the button with my thumb and wait for the door to open in front of me. When they open, our little group enters, the elevator lowering us to the ground floor. My stomach churns with the quick movement mixed with my anticipation for the coming hours. Today is one of those days where I feel like I still haven’t let go.
Today, I don’t want to let go.
