Back to Tobias's POV. This is where everyone realizes that they have strength in numbers. I do not own any of the characters in the Divergent series.

CHAPTER FIVE

TOBIAS POV

Today, I don’t feel like doing much. I just want to live in Tris’s life, breathing in the old Abnegation smell. Earlier, I moved everything out of my house by the river, including my present from Evelyn. I sat on Tris’s old bed, just staring at the falling, blue water. After a few minutes of this, I feel drained. From downstairs, I hear a knock on the door. I take my time, rolling off the bed, opening the door, and walking downstairs to the living room.

“Hello? Who is it?” I ask before opening the door. I am really not in the mood to talk to anyone.

“It’s Christina,” a voice calls from behind the door, “We’re all going to the cemetery, Zeke, Shauna, and I… heard you moved again.”

I open the door slowly, not wanting to let them in, especially after what happened with Uriah.

“I don’t want a crying session with everyone, okay,” I say tiredly. Christina fakes a smile (strange for a Candor) and comes inside with Shauna. Zeke hesitates at the door. I don’t blame him, he’s been through a lot, and I am the one who let his brother die.

I head toward the couch and offer everyone a seat. Christina eyes the place like it is a nut house. She’s probably never been inside an Abnegation home. It’s plain and dry, so unlike anything that she is used to, but to me, it is a vain way of keeping Tris close to me.

“So, what did you come here for?” I ask, fairly confused.

“I just thought that since we’re all grieving, we might as well do it together,” Christina says, shrugging.

“Plus we need to reform some bonds,” Shauna says, elbowing Zeke in the side. She is the only one that seems unaffected by this whole situation. Lynn’s family sure is weird.

“We were actually just heading to the cemetery and we ran into Cara. She told me about the incident in the Hub…” Christina says awkwardly.

“You don’t need to get into it,” I say defensively.

“Okay, but… as I was saying, do you, um, want to come with us to…” Christina trails on.

“Oh, well…”

“Please. We all know you haven’t been to see the memorial, Uriah, Lynn, or Will.”

“Fine, I’ll go… but if you cry on me, I’m out,” I answer, smirking.

We all get up and leave the living room, heading for the front door. When I open it, sitting on the front step is Caleb. He turns, a look of shock on his face.

I don’t give him the chance to speak, so instead, I pat him on the back, help him up, and walk him towards the Amity compound where the cemeteries lie.

Perhaps this life is worth living.

Maybe we needed a loss to realize that.
