CHAPTER 21
TOBIAS POV
I sit up, my head throbbing from lack of sleep. I hear a knock on the door. I quickly pull on a shirt and head downstairs. I open the door, squinting at the bright light. I see it is Caleb and Cara. I notice they are wearing their old faction colors. He has a crumpled piece of paper in his hand.
I open the door wider, letting him come in.
"Cara and I were discussing something last night, and we need to tell you something..."
I look at them ponderingly.
Cara says, "You were right to show concern about your father and what he planned to do... Especially because the experiment would work..."
"How do you know it would work?" I ask suspiciously.
"Because we created the notes..." Caleb says, his head down.
"What? And you just let it go missing? And you lied to me!" I yell.
"It wasn't Caleb's fault," Cara claims, "It must have happened when his house was broken into..."
"Retards! Being Erudite, I assume now, doesn't mean you are intelligent at all! You can't even take care of an important and dangerous document!" I scream at them.
"But-" Caleb starts.
"And you don't even know what Marcus plans to do with the information!" I exclaim, "Just leave... I need some time alone..."Caleb takes Cara's hand and they walk out the door, tears in their eyes.
The door closes and I am left alone, like I am every other day...
