Riley POV
------------------------------------
That was officially the scariest thing I have ever done I thought to myself, still feeling the adrenaline in my veins from it all. Never in my life, not even from flying, have I experienced a high like I'm feeling now. I understand now why they call it cloud 9. I smiled slightly and stole a glance at the girl in the seat next to me who was responsible for the feelings I'm currently having. She is stunning. There is no doubt in my mind she is my mate. I was sure of it the moment she opened the door. I have to remember to thank Jason later for all of his advice. I would not have known what to do or say at all if it wasn't for him and his pep talk last night.
"Do you mind?" she said as we pulled out onto the main road and she motioned toward the AUX cord in the middle of the seats.
"Not at all" I said trying hard to hide the amount of nerves in my voice.
"Keep your cool Riley" I kept telling myself internally, afraid that if my voice didn't give away the fact I'm kind of freaking out, my white knuckles gripping the steering wheel surely would.
The song "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw came over the cars stereo system and I forced myself to relax and focus on the music.
Walking into the little coffee shop I cant help notice that Nichole was immediately greeted by the woman behind the counter. This is her favorite place to get coffee and, apparently one of the few places on the island that has a decent selection. I guess they really like their black coffee here. I sat at a table and watched as Nichole ordered our drinks. She grabbed the cups and walked over to the table taking a seat across from me.
"So I hope you don't mind me asking" she started as I took a sip of my coffee "How come a guy like you has never been on a date?" she said and I could see the curiosity behind her eyes.
"My Family has a sort of... tradition" I said carefully selecting my words. "We like to think that there is someone out there meant for us and because of that, its pointless to waist time of girls who are just there for the purpose of pleasing themselves." I stated. The last thing I wanted to do is to slip and say something that could freak her out. She's human after all and I have to remember that.
She seemed entertained at my answer but just nodded and drank some more of her coffee.
"What about you?" I asked Just as curious to know why someone so stunning was single although I wasn't complaining in the slightest.
She let out a small laugh and, even though I was completely serious about my question, I couldn't help but smile because of how contagious her smile and laugh is.
"I live in a house of guys" she says shrugging with a smile like its nothing. "Imagine what its like being the only girl. They tend to be protective to say the least. In fact you probably were only lucky enough to avoid an interrogation because of the fact your visit was a surprise," she said with a small roll of her eyes when referring to the protectiveness of her father and brothers but, I could tell she loved them regardless.
I would be crazy if I didn't admire the woman sitting across from me. We may still be young but anyone can see that she is mature beyond her age. I cant help but wonder what it was that could have made her grow up so much for being so young.
My thoughts were interrupted by gasps as everyone in the coffee shop got out of their seats and crowded in front of the TV on the other side of the counter. I looked over to Nichole to see her frozen in her seat as she faced the TV and I followed her gaze. I immediately shot out of my seat as I saw what was flashing across the screen. This cant be happening. Not now. Not here. I have to get back to the pack right away. I turned to Nichole with a regretful look and she looked back at me with the same blank face she had since she saw the news.
"Go" was all she said and I knew she understood I needed to get home.
I nodded to her and left to the jet. This was not over, I will be back for her. Until then I must do what is necessary to be there with my pack.
