Nichole POV
———————————
As I sat in the car staring out the window I started thinking back to the night of Ryan and I's birthday night.
*Flash Back*
"Ryan I cant take it anymore" I sobbed while bowing on the ground, with my face near the floor, my hands were clawing at the ground searching for something, hoping for something that would help distract from the pain in my shoulder blades.
I look up with tears streaming down my sweat covered face to hear Ryan yell once again. He was kneeling with his face up towards the ceiling. Sweat rolling down his face, his whole body was drenched, his hands were in fists at his side and his jaw clenched, he was bracing his body for another serge of excruciating pain.
"Nikki it's okay we will make it, I promise." But his eyes gave away the amount of pain and fear his voice had somehow managed to hide.
He started to move over to me but the next pulse of pain came hitting us almost simultaneously as we both crumple completely to the ground.
*Pause Flashback*
I jerked back to reality shivering at the memory. I'm kind of glad I blacked out after that because I don't know how much more pain I could have taken. Not wanting to relive the pain that is still so fresh in my mind, I thinking about how strange it was to wake with a pair of wings over me.
*Continue Flashback*
I stirred on the floor moaning as somebody shook me. My head was foggy and when I opened my eyes it took a while to get them to focus but I could tell by the voice it was Ryan who had woken me up. I went to sit up and immediately felt something heavy and soft covering me. I sat up all the way and let my eyes adjust completely looking down at my wings still draped over part of me. Smiling I looked up at Ryan.
"Its done?" I said, but it came out more of a statement then a question.
"Ya, I told you we would be okay," he said calmly. We gave each other a big hug then he helped me up slowly.
*End Flashback*
I smiled as I though of my own pair of black wings that were at this vary moment retracted in my back. Like I said before the gene has been in my family for who know how long. Another thing nobody can figure out is that for some reason every single person in my family that has changed has had black wings. This has always puzzled me because of the fact Guardians are always known for having white wings, not black.
"Oh my gosh look!" one of the girls squeals.
We all quickly turn to see what she is pointing at and more squeals erupt from the girls as we see a distant set of headlights through the back window of the small car. We had been sitting in the car for nearly 3 hours by this point and the girls were ecstatic about the possibility of being "rescued". We are all falling over each other, laughing as we crawl out of the car and run into the middle of the road, creating a line of girls frantically waving their arms so that the driver would not be able to miss us. As the car continues to draw near I pray that it will be somebody who will actually be able to help us.
As the car approached it slowed down and pulled off to the side of the road. We all looked at each other with hopeful glances as we started to walk towards the person we all hoped would get us out of our horrible situation. The rest of the girls hung back around my car as I continued towards the strangers car only to come to a dead halt as the most amazing looking guy I have seen in a long while appeared from out of the car.
"Hey ladies! Do you have car trouble? Are you all okay?" he said with a little bit of worry in his voice, a small crinkle in between his eye brow forms.
"Yeah but we are all fine" I said as I ran my fingers through my hair and bit my lip nervously.
He walked over to my car, looked under the hood, and started messing around with different parts of the engine. After a while he brushed off his hands and put the hood down again.
"All right that should do it," he confidently stated as he brushed off his hands.
With a charming smile he winked in our direction causing one of the girls to giggle. There was something about him that made you feel drawn to him. Not wanting this man to leave I quickly started a conversation asking him where he was from and where he was headed. He said he was from Canada and is here for some kind of meeting in the same town we were headed. We talked for a little bit and then I looked at the time on my phone.
"Oh no, we have to go" I stated reluctantly more to myself than anybody.
Even though it was just around noon we still needed to get there and back home at a decent time. He offered to follow behind us on our way there just in case something else happened to the car and we agreed it would be best.
"Oh gosh I'm so sorry, I'm so rude!" blushing and wanting to face palm myself, I realized I hadn't properly introduced myself.
"My name is Nichole but you can call me Nikki." I smiled and put my hand out for him to shake.
"Oh no worries. I'm Riley. It's a pleasure to meet you Nikki." he said in a laid back manner as he shook my hand but I notice both of us stiffen when our hands connected.
"Thank you so much for everything. It was very nice to meet you Riley!" I smiled and turned back to my car rubbing my hand and grinning like an idiot.
"Riley. I like that name" I thought to myself.
