I had to get out of the house. The stress of all the Alpha duties was piling up and I would soon reach a point where I would snap a nerve at any little thing, I cant take it any more. I don't know how my dad, or any other Alpha for that matter, could handle so much stress all the same time. It's only half way through the first week and i'm about to go crazy.
I talked to Jason my Beta, as well as my parents telling them i'm done for the day and, I would be gone for a few days. I grabbed the keys to my car and headed for the lake where my family had a private cabin. I had to get away and find my sanity again and I knew that was just the place.
I pulled up to the large cabin and turned off the car just sitting in the seat staring at the building. We have houses in a few different areas of our pack territory but I had not been to this one in years. Now standing in front of the house a smile made its way to my face as I took it all in. It still looked the same as I remembered it. As I walked in the front door and through out the house memories flooded my mind.
After a while, I decided to walk one of the trails that was near the house and as I got to the end I was standing in a small clearing that was an edge of a cliff overlooking a lake. I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath as the wind came up the side of the cliff rustling through the trees behind me.
This was exactly what I needed and without even realizing it I let out my wings ripping my shirt off, letting the wind blow through the feathers. I smiled as a free feeling came over me as stretched my wings to their full size in the wind. My wing caught the wind just right and pulled me a little bit and then I got an idea.
I still hadn't had the opportunity to learn to fly yet because all the pack duties had been keeping me locked up in the house. I walked over to the edge of the cliff and looked down at the water below smiling from anticipation and excitement. It was only around 20 feet and without a second thought I took off my shoes and stood at the edge with my toes hanging off. Slowly with my wings still stretched wide I let my self fall over the edge loving the adrenaline rush. First I tried wildly flapping my wings attempting to lift myself into the sky but that didn't go so well. I climbed back up the rock face and tried something different. I kept at it for a while and then I figured out that the slow, powerful beating of my wings was the key. I was starting to learn how to fly.
The sun was setting when I decided to start my way back to the house. Retracting my wings and grabbing my stuff I started leisurely wandering up the path. I looked up at the darkening sky, and at the moon. Every werewolf child is raised dreaming of finding their mate, which is a soulmate made exclusively for you, and me being raised the same way I had always thought about it. But now since everything changed on my birthday I didn't know what to think or expect. Do Guardians have something like a mate? I hope so but how will I ever know. There is so much about what I am that we still do not know. Reaching the end of the path at the house I go in, take a shower and get ready for bed.
