I sat on the porch staring at the moon, my head leaning back on one of the pillars. My body was still aching and weak from the intense afternoon I had. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, it had been a long day of training so I was happy just to sit and relax. I'm going to be 18 soon so I'm training for a big change in my life, something that not many people know about. As I sat there I wondered what it will be like.
"Nikki!"
I was pulled from my thoughts while sitting on the porch looking at the moon. Sitting up straight I turned to see my youngest brother running out the door to me with his arms stretched as far as his little 3 year old body would allow.
"Hey Toby" With a smile I give him a big hug.
"It's late, where is Jojo? He was supposed to put you to bed tonight." I said as I stood up with a small frown looking to see if Joel, Jojo to Toby, or any of my other brothers were around.
Toby just looked up at me and tugged on my jeans wanting me to pick him up and hold him. Bending over I grimaced at the soreness of my muscles when I lifted him, picking him up we headed inside. I knew after a hot bath I would sleep good tonight.
I am Nichole Wesley but I go by Nikki. I'm the 3rd child of 6, I'm a twin, and I'm also the first girl in around 50 years to be born into the many generations of the Wesley family, all other Wesley women are related only by marriage. We think it might have to do with the fact I'm a twin with my brother Ryan.
The Guardian gene has been in my family for centuries but, nobody really knows who was the first, or how it continues. It just does. Being one of the rare females, I am working hard to prove to my family that I am worthy of the "gift" that is usually only given to men.
It's the last week before my birthday and I'm training harder than ever. I have been working on getting into the best shape I can, exercising and training in many areas of fighting, running, and lifting weights.
Each Guardian receives a gift of an element, I'm excited to see what my gift will be. I will be learning more of the skills of the Guardians but its hard to do that now. I have to wait until my birthday when I actually get my wings. That is when things get serious.

"Today is your birthday, happy happy birthday, today is your birthday, happy birthday hey!"
I woke up to my 10 year old brother singing obnoxiously loud as he burst through my door and into my room. I groaned and rolled over in bed covering my head with my pillow. He ended his song and I peeked out from under the pillow.
"Are you gone yet Beau?" I groaned annoyed and horse from my sleepy voice.
I removed the pillow from my head completely just in time to see 4 of my 5 brothers rush to pile on top of me.
"Ugh come on guys go bug Ryan! It's his birthday too" I wined as I started trying to wiggle out from under the pile, thinking that maybe I should be more grateful for my twin than I usually am.
"They already did, and trust me you got it good compared to what they did to me." Ryan's voice, sounding slightly bitter, came from somewhere over near the door.
"I don't even want to know" I said as I pushed the last of the guys off of me. My oldest brother Mason laughed and messed up my already-bed-hair. I rolled my eyes and slapped his hand away.
"Time to eat squirt" he smirked as he strolled out of the room.
"You know I hate it when you call me that Mason Grey Wesley!"
After we had our birthday lunch/party me and Ryan went to talk to dad about tonight when the change will happen. We worked out all the details and we decided that we would be together in the same cellar room.
Since my family has a pretty good knowledge of Guardians, a long time ago, they had an underground bunker made for just the purpose of the change. It's not a normal bunker though. Ya its underground but its also more like a miniature city instead of just a building. There is a main room in the middle with tunnels to different rooms and such. Some of the rooms are for storing food some are for storing weapons. The kind of rooms we will be in are made for the time of when you change. They are sound proof, reinforced cement rooms, but if you walked into the room you would never guess its purpose. It's a nice black and white decorated room with couches a bed, TV, and a bathroom is also connected to each room.
As Ryan and I looked around I started to get nervous. I had heard stories of what the change is like. Some people were in severe pain for days, others just hours, and some just blacked out for the whole thing because their bodies couldn't take it. I looked at my twin brother and he smiled and gave me a hug.
"It's okay Nikki we will be fine, we have each other." I took a deep breath and nodded walking over to the couch I turn on the TV.
Now that we were in here and all we can do is wait until midnight.
