Nichole POV
——————————
"Dad" I yelled throughout the house as I search room to room for my father. Opening the door to the garage I find my father under one of his cars.
"Hey dad, I've got some questions about the change that still need to be answered." I paused as I wait for him to crawl back out into the world from under his hobby.
"Whats up, jitterbug?" He says after getting up and wiping his hands on a rag.
"Dad you know I'm getting a little old for your nicknames" I roll my eyes but smile anyway as he walks over to me.
"What was it you wanted to ask me about?" He says changing the subject and I let it go for now.
"I was curious about something, would you say you and mom are soulmates?"
"Of course" he said without hesitation, and I saw a sparkle in his eye as he smiled fondly at the thought.
"How do you know for sure? When you find 'the one'" I said as I used my fingers as quotation marks when I said the one instantly feeling kinda silly.
My dad and I were close but neither of us were the type of people to discuss much about dating. We were both private when it came to that stuff so it had never really come up much.
"Well Jitterbug, it's hard to explain. It was just something I felt. An almost instant feeling of safety ant trust. The most obvious way I knew though was when I felt a pull, so faint it was almost unnoticeable, towards her. It was unlike anything I've ever felt before or since meeting your mother." He said as he looked off in the distance with a sadness you couldn't miss. I closed the gap between us as I moved in for a hug.
"I miss her too" I said as a single tear managed to escape my now very watery eyes.
***Flash Back***
"Mommy who is that?" I asked alarmed and scared as I cuddled closer in my mothers arms.
I could hear unfamiliar howling and growls through out our neighborhood. The lights were all out and all the curtains were closed so we could only hear what was going on outside our home. There was whining and more vicious growls and my mother hugged us kids closer and I pressed my head against her chest hearing her heart beat rapidly. We were all sobbing from fear.
"Shh it's okay" my mother spoke into the top of my head as she rocked me and my 3 year old twin brother Ryan, back and forth in her lap.
"I wont let anyone hurt you. Your father and I love you all way to much to let that happen" I looked up at her and she wiped the tears off my face with her thumb and kept rocking back and forth.
It had been about 6 at night when my Father and mother came rushing into my room. I didn't know exactly what was going on until I saw the look on my fathers face, it was actually happening.
For months now we had been hearing of a pack of werewolves targeting areas of prime land that would add to their territory but, never did we expect them to venture out this far from their current territory. Our community was known as one of the most peaceful in the local area. There had been talk of this pack wanting to take over the far end of the island, but nobody had ever dreamed that they would actually try to take the whole thing.
What these werewolves didn't know is that we were no ordinary community. I come from a long line of Guardians. Also known as Angels to people who don't know any different, we have been living among ordinary people for centuries. Gifted with wings and an elemental power at the age of 18 we are what you could say more evolved than the average human. The gene is almost exclusively given to males.
Usually living alone or in small groups, we as Guardians like to keep a very low profile as to not be found out and hunted or studied like lab rats. There once was a point in time where we actually had a bigger greater purpose for being here, thus the title of "Guardians," however over the centuries with change and technology we have become just another species to inhabit this planet we all now call home.
It was anyone's guess of who's winning really, our people are strong and have powers but the same can be said of them. All we could do is hope that is would be over as soon as possible as we huddle in our little closet.
