I groaned and rolled over in my bed covering my face from the light coming in my window. Then I sat straight up in bed as I realized today was the day I become Alpha.

For the last few months I have been preparing for this day. The pack meeting was at 2 o'clock this afternoon and I could already here everybody shuffling around in the pack house getting ready for the ceremony.

I got up and started getting ready for the day. I came out of the shower and got dressed still in the middle of putting my shirt on while going down the stairs. I need to find my dad.

I walked down the main hallway slipping through the many busy people cleaning and decorating, all of which bowed their head in respect as I passed by.

I reached my fathers office door and, knowing he could sense my presents anyway I walked in without knocking. Our current Beta, Josh, and he both looked up from the paper work on the desk and sat back in their chairs.

"Dad, Josh" I greeted with a nod.

"Ah Riley, your up! Good come and sit." My father motioned to a chair.

"We were just going over some of the last minute work on the schedule for the pack meeting and ceremony."

He smiled and picked up the paper in front of him handing it to me. I looked over it and then we discussed it as well as other details about how later today was going to go.

My nerves are on edge today more than ever and I didn't get much sleep at all last night. I know the pack will respect me even though i'm not like them, but I want them to respect me not because I will be their alpha, but because they accept me for who I am, wings and all.

Later at the Pack Meeting

"Good after noon, Moon Dance Pack" My father said smiling and standing tall as the pack took their seats and the huge crowd went quiet.

"Today is a big day in our history as a pack because today is, as you all know, the day I pass to my son Riley the Alpha title."

He turned and motioned towards me. The crowed cheered. I looked out at the crowed from my chair on the temporary stage in the back lawn. Some were crying and some were smiling. Little did they know it was a bigger day in history than they could ever guess. I was the first non-wolf to be deemed an Alpha of this pack.

I stood and walked to the spot beside my father smiling on the outside but shaking inside.

My father went on with his speech and then at the end he started explaining to the pack what all had happened in the last few weeks, about the woman before his mate, and about me.

As he described what I am I gently let my wings out to let the pack see. I held my head high and closed my eyes. I heard a gasp from the pack. And my father squeezed my shoulder showing his support.

I had gone back to my chair wings still folded to my back. I was watching the response of the pack closely. Most sat in shock, some had started whispering, and some looked my direction in pity or awe. My father finished and invited me back up again to speak. I took a deep breath and walked to the center of the stage.

"I know this will have come as a shock to most of you, hell, it was a shock to me." I stated.

"I am still learning about what I am and I am grateful to those who have been and will be there to support me. I am here today to accept the position as Alpha but only with the blessing and full support of you all." I paused to look around the crowd.

"I will do my best to protect and serve you with all I am. Thank you" I finished and took a step back to stand next to my father.

The pack stood and cheered and I could tell that they were going to be there for me. The rest of the ceremony finished and I, Riley White, became Alpha.
