Sapling
Planted as a young child
I grew from a seed
Planted into the Earth
To change
Develop
To grow...
It has only been years
It feel like eternity
That I've been sitting here
Watching the world pass me by
Feeling the rain and the wind against my skin
Waiting for the life I know...
My phloem and xylem
Are working like crazy
Frantically rushing along inside of me
Nurturing me
Building me up
Making me stronger...
Even at something like twenty years
I'm still a child
Small and immature
Still young
Still changing
I wait even longer...
Time passes
So do people
But I'm still here
Anticipating
I know I'm growing
But it's taking so long...
My arms are outstretched
Never tiring
My feet firmly in the ground
Never moving
I am open and I listen
For the bluebird's song...
Eventually, I become
What I was meant to be
Strong and sturdy
That's what humans needed
So I was chopped down
I feel like my life's been a joke...
Live and die, that's what we all do
I lived to be chopped down
After all that time, only to be reduced to a stump
It's like they don't realize that I was even alive
But I will accept the truth--I'm dead.
Even from acorns can grow a mighty oak...
----------------------------
I lie on the ground
Waiting for more
They saw me to pieces
And I'll be ignored...
