This is a slight trigger warning for suicide attempt. It's not too graphic but i don't want anyone to be triggered.
i leaned against the door of her room, watching her do her eyeliner.
"If you're doing a wing i suggest starting at the end." I said.
She jumped and looked at me. "What are you doing?" She laughed.
"Came to see if you need help. I used to wear makeup in college." I said, walking in and sitting on her bed.
"You did?" She said.
"I did." I smiled.
"Well, good. Mom doesn't like that i wear makeup and i thought i had to learn myself." She chuckled.
"Im fine with it, just don't over-do it." I said, getting up and going to grab some baby wipes. I don't know why we have these to be honest. Matt is 6. I walked back into her room. "Wipe that off, ill show you how to do it."
I grabbed the eyeliner from her. "I'll do it on myself to show you." I said.
I started at the end, with the wing, then did the rest. "see? Like that." I said.
"Wow. Okay. My turn." She took it back and started on her eye. I watched her do it. It was almost perfect.
"Good job." I smiled.
She nodded and did the other eye as i took it off myself.
Afterwards i walked downstairs. "Cas?" I called, running my hand through my hair, he wasn't on the couch. I walked to the kitchen. Nope. Office? Nope. I walked outside. He was getting Matt. I nodded.
Anna came down the stairs as I tidied the living room a bit.
Cas and Matt came in. "Ready to go?" I asked.
Matt nodded and Cas smiled, ruffling his hair, also nodding.
"You look pretty." I heard Matt say to Anna as i grabbed the car keys.
"Thanks." She smiled.
We got into the car and i drove to Sam's.
We got there and Matt went to see Sam right away. Sam and Jessie didn't have any other kids than Zeke, so Matt wasn't very close in age to his cousin, but Sam and Jessie loved having him around so they always welcomed him with open arms.
"Hey Dean, Cas." Jessie smiled.
"Hey." I smiled, taking off my coat, and taking Cas' from him. I hung them up, kissing Cas' cheek. "Want a drink?" I asked, before going to the kitchen to get a beer.
"No i'm good for now babe." He smiled at me.
I nodded and walked to the kitchen to grab one.
when i came back to the living room i looked over at Anna who was talking with the boy, who i'm assuming is Brandon.
I put my hand on Cas' shoulder. "That Brandon?" I asked.
"Dunno. i guess."
I walked over to Anna. "Hey, wanna introduce us?" I smiled at her.
"Oh. Oh yeah. Uh. Daddy, this is Brandon. Brandon, this is my dad.. Dean. And on the couch, that's my other dad, Castiel." She said.
Cas waved.
"Hi." Brandon just kinda awkwardly nodded.
"And this little guy is my brother, Matt." Anna said when Matt came into the room with a comic book.
"Hes your brother?" Brandon said.
"Yep." She smiled. "Matt. C'mere." She said.
Matt walked over to her. He was a shy kid. Always has been.
Anna smiled, as i walked back to see Cas. Brandon kneeled to be able to make eye contact with Matt. I heard them bond over the comic book.
"Approved." Cas mumbled as i wrapped my arm around him.
I chuckled.
We sat for a while, Cas wasn't in a particularly good mood today, and he was really tired so i think he actually almost fell asleep against me a few times as i talked to him. He played with the hem of my shirt to keep him awake.
"Dinner!" Jessie called.
He looked at me and shook his head. "I wanna go home." He whispered.
"Why? You okay?" I asked him.
"Don't feel good." He said quietly.
"Do you need me to drive you or can you drive?" I asked.
He shook his head. I kissed his forehead and stood up.
"Hey, Sam, could you watch Matt and Anna for like 20 minutes? Cas doesn't feel good. I gotta drive him home." I said.
"Sure." He nodded. "He doesn't want dinner first?" He asked.
"Nah." I said, walking back to Cas. I kneeled in front of him. "c'mon." I smiled. "Let's go. I'll drive you home." I said.
He took my arm and walked out with me. In the car he was relatively quiet. "Are you taking your medication?" I asked.
He didn't say anything, staring out the window.
"Do you need anything?" I asked, turning to look at him when we stopped at a red light.
"No." He leaned his head against the window.
"I'll bring you home some dinner from Sam's." I said.
"Alright." He shrugged.
We pulled into the driveway. "Call me if you need me." I squeezed his arm.
"Just need to be alone for a bit. I'll be okay." He leaned over and kissed me gently.
"I'll be home in an hour ish." I said.
"Okay." He opened the door. "Love you." He said.
"I love you too." I smiled.
I went back to Sam's for dinner. I was observing Brandon and Anna. 'not my boyfriend' she told me earlier. But could have fooled me with the way they're acting. Her birthday is next week and i have no idea what we're doing.
Matt pulled on my sleeve. "Where's dad?" He asked.
"He had to go home. Feeling icky." I pouted.
He nodded. "I'm not hungry anymore." He looked up at me.
"Alright buddy, not even for dessert?" I asked.
"My second tummy is ready for dessert." He perked up.
I chuckled. "Do you think your first tummy can eat 5 more bites?" I asked
"But daddy." He whined.
"No "but daddy"s. Eat 5 more bites or else there's no dessert." I said, ruffling his hair.
"Bu-"
"If the next word out of your mouth is 'daddy', you have to eat the rest of your plate before you get any dessert." I said.
He groaned and shovelled another bite into his mouth.
I counted down until he had had 5 bites. I nodded. "Good job." I smiled at him and kissed the top of his head.
After we ate, Jessie brought out some pie and ice cream. I think i was more excited than the kids. Just as she was about to serve me, Cas called. I almost ignored it, but it could be important.
"Hello?" I got up, walking into the hallway.
Heavy breathing for a while and then a really broken sounding.."dean?"
"Cas? Cas what's wrong?" I patted my pocket to make sure i had my keys.
"Dean.. can you. Dean i need you." He wasn't even forming a coherent sentence.
"Baby, tell me what's wrong." I walked to the door. I signalled to Sammy that i had an emergency, and he just nodded, understanding.
"Blood." He sounded so faint.
"Blood? your blood? What did you do?" I got in the car, putting him on speaker as i drove.
".....Yeah." He whispered.
"Did you call anyone else?" I asked.
".....No." He croaked.
"Okay, im going to call you right back okay?" I said.
"Kay." He mumbled.
I hung up, and dialled 911.
"911, what's your emergency?"
"Hey, yeah. So my husband was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago and he hasn't been taking his medication. I was at dinner at my brothers and he called me and told me there was blood, his blood. He sounds like he's gonna faint. I'm going to him now, but i need an ambulance to go to our house." I said, then gave her the address. I didn't wait for a response. I hung up and dialled Cas again.
"....Dean." He answered.
"Baby, i need you to tell me what happened." I said, going as fast as i can without it being too dangerous.
"My...my arms." He said. "...I did it." He muttered.
"Okay, where are you?" I asked.
"Kitchen." He mumbled.
"Is there a towel there?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Okay, can you put it against your arm?" I said.
"Yeah." He said. I heard him move around.
I got to our house and just stopped the car on the lawn, getting out and running inside.
"Cas. i'm here." i said, taking off my shirt and wrapping it around his arm. "Cassie. Why?" I pulled him to a sitting position.
"i don't.. i love you." He leaned against me.
"Okay, it's okay. I love you too. Why aren't you taking your pills?" i asked.
"sick." he replied.
I heard the sirens outside.
"C'mon, hold onto me." I said, lifting him up. He put his head against my chest as i carried him out to the ambulance. The assessed his injuries in the ambulance, as I sat there, i wasn't wearing a shirt, or anything. I mean, i threw a jacket on but that's it. I just sat there, staring at him as he came in and out of consciousness.
They rushed him into the ER, telling me i have to wait in the waiting room. "Are you fucking joking? That's my husband!" I shouted. I don't care if i'm causing a scene.
"I'm sorry, all patients that are rushed to the emergency room are in critical condition and we can't have anyone there to distract our doctors. We'll let you know as soon as you can go see him." The receptionist said.
I sighed, and went to take a seat. I took my phone out of my jeans pocket. I called Sam.
"Hey man." Sam answered.
"Listen, do you think Anna and Matt could crash at your place and you could get them off to school tomorrow?" I asked.
"No problem. Why?" I asked.
"Cas had to be rushed to the hospital. I'll explain when i know more. Don't tell the kids. I don't want them to worry."
"Alright. Yeah of course." He said.
"Thank you." I sighed.
"Is he okay?" Sam asked.
"No." I said shakily, holding back tears.
"Are you?" He asked.
"No." I said as a tear fell down my cheek.
"Do you want me to come to the hospital?" He asked.
"No no. You have to take care of your wife and the kids. It's." I sniffled. "It's fine."
"I can come. Jessie can hold down the fort." He said.
"It's fine." I said quietly.
I heard him sigh.
"Can i talk to my kids?" I asked.
I heard him hand the phone over.
"Daddy?" Anna said.
"Hey sweetheart." I smiled slightly, hearing her voice.
"Where'd you go?" She said.
"Dad needed me at home. Everything will be fine. You and Matty are staying at uncle Sam's tonight. He's gonna get you guys to school tomorrow, okay?" I said.
"Okay, i'll take care of Matt, don't worry." She said.
"You're the best." I chuckled.
"What happened?" She asked.
"I'll explain tomorrow. Okay? Can i talk to your brother?" I asked.
"Sure." She said.
"Love you kiddo." I said.
"Love you too daddy." She said, handing Matty the phone
"Hi daddy." He chirped.
"Hey buddy." I smiled slightly.
"Where are you?" he said.
"Im with dad. Hes not feeling good." I said.
"Oh." He said. "Give him a kiss for me" He said in the most adorable way.
"Sure thing, bud." I smiled. "So listen up. Uncle Sammy's gonna get you off to school tomorrow okay? I can't cause i need to focus on dad. Got it?" I said.
"Yes daddy." He said.
"Awesome. I love you buddy." I said.
"Love you too daddy." He said.
"bye." I said.
"Bye bye!" He hung up.
I put my phone back in my pocket and sighed. I put my head in my hands, wiping my eyes.
I waited for 20 minutes before I went to go ask about him.
"They're giving him stitches as we speak. You should be able to go see him in 15 minutes." She said.
I nodded and went back to sit. I put my head in my hands again and took a shaky breath. "Hey." Someone said.
I looked up. "Sam?"
"I wasn't gonna let you go through this alone. We go through everything together." He sat beside me.
I must've surprised him cause i hugged him.
He slowly hugged me back. "What happened?" He asked.
"I.. he." I sighed. "He called me and wasn't able to form a proper sentence, and you and i both know that that's not like Cas." I said.
He nodded.
"Uh. So. I rushed home. I was on the phone with him the whole time. There was so much blood." I felt my eyes sting.
"Okay. Okay. It's okay." Sam hugged me tighter.
"Anyone who's here for Castile Winchester follow me please." The nurse said.
I stood up quickly and followed her. "So hes heavily sedated, might be asleep. We also gave him his medication for bipolar through an iv. You'll have to watch him closely to make sure he takes the medication every day so this doesn't happen again." She said.
i nodded. "Is he okay?" I said, i was practically running to catch up to her fast-paced walk.
"He will be discharged either late tonight or tomorrow morning." She said.
"Thanks." I nodded when she opened the door to his room. I walked in and rushed to his side.
"Cas, im here." I took his hand carefully, as his arms were bandaged.
He was passed out, but i didn't care. I looked at his beautiful face, swiping some of his hair away from his face.
Sam walked over. "Want me to call your work for you guys?" He asked.
I nodded but didn't look away from Cas' sleeping face.
After sam called and made sure we were okay, he left and went back home. I kept Cas' hand in mine. He stirred slightly.
"Hey." I said when he opened his eyes.
He smiled lazily. "Are you a nurse?" He asked.
I chuckled, oh the medication. "No." I shook my head.
"Why are you here then?" He looked at our hands.
"i'm your husband. Why wouldn't i be here?" I said.
"My husband???" He gasped. "I married you?" He said.
"Yes baby." I smiled.
"Woah." He nodded.
"Im gonna call the doctor in okay?" I smiled.
"Okay, husband." He giggled.
I shook my head and called the doctor in.
"Hes actin' loopy. How long will that last?" I asked.
"Should wear off within the hour." The doctor said.
I nodded.
"How do you feel?" the doctor asked.
"Good. Did you know that HE'S MY HUSBAND?!" He giggled.
I shook my head. "Sorry." I chuckled.
"It's okay. We've experienced worse than this." The doctor said.
"Cas." I said, grabbing his attention.
"Yes, beautiful husband?" He smiled.
I chuckled. "How do you feel?" I asked.
"Like a million bucks." He grinned.
"Good." I smiled.
I sat with him until he calmed down from his high. He had fallen asleep.
When he woke up, he groaned. "Hey." I said, rubbing thumb on the back of his hand. I was sitting in a chair beside the bed.
"Hey." He smiled.
"How do you feel?" I asked.
"Fine i guess" He rubbed his eyes and slowly sat up.
"Wanna tell me what happened?" I asked carefully.
"No." He replied.
I sighed and nodded. "Scared the shit outta me." I said, moving to sit on the bed beside him.
"Scared myself as well." He muttered, leaning against me when I sat beside him.
"I love you." I kissed his shoulder.
"Love you too." He muttered.
I wrapped my arm around him and held him.
