It's been 7 years since that. He has his good and bad days with his disorder but i'm always here to calm him down. Of course, like any married couple we fight, and bicker. But at the end of the day there's nobody i'm happier to be with than him.
6 years ago we adopted a baby. Anna is almost 13 now. She's just old enough to get the hormone blockers.
Her doctors appointment is this afternoon.
Cas was cooking dinner, i was cleaning up a mess our son made in the living room.
"Dad!" Anna called.
"Hes cooking, what is it?" I called back.
She sighed and stomped didn't the stairs. "Dad, you did the laundry, right?" She walked right over to him.
"Yeah, why?" he said.
"I can't find my green dress." she sat up on the counter.
"Um. Okay, which one?" He said.
"My only green one, dad." She sighed.
"The short one?" He asked.
"Uh, i guess." She said
"I threw it in the donate box." I said.
"What the hell, why?" She crossed her arms.
"Watch your tone." I pointed at her. "It's too short for you." I said.
"Well it was my favourite." She groaned.
"Well, get a new favourite." I said.
"I don't want to. Where's the donate box?" She said.
"It's in the car." I poured myself a coffee.
"Dad, can i go get it?" She turned to look at Cas.
"I.. uh." He turned off the element he was cooking on and turned to look at me, then to Anna. "Daddy said no." I said.
"So?" She frowned.
"So that means no. Put on your pretty pink skirt or something." He said.
She groaned and stomped up the stairs.
"And to think she's not even a teenager yet." I smiled and kissed Cas.
"Yeah." He laughed. "Breakfast?" He smiled.
"Yeah. I'd love some." I grabbed a plate from him. I also grabbed a plate for Matt, our son. He smiled at the table and thanked me.
"No problem buddy." I ruffled his hair.
I sat at the table with my coffee and food, smiling when Cas came to join us.
Anna came down wearing a pink skirt and white frilly tank top.
She sat at her seat. "I'm really excited." She said. "I don't like boy puberty. My voice is getting deeper and there might be hair growing on my face soon, cause Carl has it and we're the same age." She said.
"Who's Carl?" Cas asked.
"My friend." She shrugged.
"Just a friend?" I asked.
"Ew. Yes daddy." She laughed.
"Alright, just checkin'!" I laughed.
After breakfast we went to the doctors office.
"Is it gonna hurt?" she asked me.
"I dunno. I never got it done." I said, wrapping my arm around her.
"Mom said she was gonna come. Where is she?" Anna crossed her arms.
"Just wait a second sweetheart. She'll be here soon." I said.
She sighed and took her phone out, scrolling on facebook i think.
"Hey! Sorry i'm late." Lisa walked over to us, sitting next to Cas. "You excited?" she asked.
"Yep." Anna nodded.
"Anna winchester?" The doctor called.
We all got up.
"Just Anna and her parents please." The doctor said.
"We're all her parent." I said.
"They're her dads. I'm her mom." Lisa said.
"Biological?" The doctor said.
"The fuck does that matter?" I frowned.
"Dean, it's okay. I'll wait here." Cas grabbed my arm. "It's fine." He said.
"No fuck that. You're coming." I said.
"Dean, its fine. Matt and I will just stay here."
"No it's not." I turned to look at the doctor. "My husband is coming in with us to be there for our daughter." I said.
"I'm sorry I really can't allow that." She said.
"Then why don't both of you go and i wait here with matt." Lisa said.
"No, mom." Anna grabbed Lisa's hand.
"Alright. Just mother and child then?" The doctor said.
"Daddy and Mom. Dad, can you stay here with Matt?" Anna frowned.
The doctor nodded
"Dad." Anna looked at Cas.
"Yes angel?" Cas put his arm around her shoulders.
She just hugged him.
I smiled slightly. I put my arm over Lisa's shoulders as we walked to the doctors office. Cas stayed in the waiting room with Matt.
We got to the office. The doctor was already there.
"Hello" He smiled.
"Hi." Anna smiled.
"Alrighty. Well i have a series of questions for you. I don't want your mom or dad answering them. Just you. Alright?" He said.
She nodded.
We all sat down.
"So. You were born Adam Winchester?"
"Unfortunately." She laughed a bit.
"How old were you when you realized you felt.. different?" He asked.
"I don't know. I've always felt like this." She said.
"She was 3." I said.
"Just her please." The doctor said.
"Right, sorry." I mumbled.
"What's your favourite colour?" He asked.
"Why?" She frowned.
"Just wanna get to know you. We'll be seeing each other a lot." He said.
"Purple." She crossed her legs.
"Has your name legally been changed to Anna?" He asked.
"Yes." She said.
"Does anything about yourself make you uncomfortable?" He asked.
"Maybe the fact that I have a dick." She leaned back.
"Anna. Language." Lisa said.
"Sorry mom." She sighed.
"It's quite alright." The doctor said. "Why does your penis make you uncomfortable?" he asked
"It makes me feel like less of a girl." She said.
"Do you want, or plan, to have surgery eventually?" He said.
"As soon as possible." She nodded.
"Do you know why i'm asking you these questions?" He said.
"To make sure i don't make a mistake, im assuming." She said.
"Precisely." He nodded.
"So you have your mother, Lisa Braeden. Your father, Dean winchester." He said.
"And my dad Castiel Winchester." She said. "Hes in the waiting room with my brother"
"So your parents are gay?" He said
"Obviously. They're married." She said.
"How does that make you feel?" He asked.
"What does this have to do with me wanting to be a girl?" She asked.
"Nothing. I jus-"
"Then can we skip the question please. My dads are happy together and great dads. That's all that matters." She said.
"Alright, i apologize." He said.
"Do you know what testosterone, oestrogen and hormonal blockers are?" He asked.
"Yes." She nodded.
"What are they?" He looked to his clipboard.
"Oestrogen is the natural hormone women produce. Testosterone is the one for dudes and hormonal blockers are to stop the biological growth from one." She said.
"Good." He nodded. "Do you scare of needles?" He asked.
"Nope." She said.
"Do you know the repercussions of hormonal blockers?" He asked.
"Not really.." She said.
"Alright." He nodded. "Hormonal blockers is a shot i give you every 3 months for a year." He said. "What it does is slows down the testosterone in your system. Stops hair growth, voice deepening and erections." He said.
"Alright..?" She frowned.
"Taking just one shot of these hormonal blockers will make it so that it's impossible for you to have biological children." He said. "It'll make you sterile" He said.
"Okay." She nodded.
"Before i proceed does anyone have questions?" He asked.
"What happens after a year?" Lisa asked.
"After a year of hormonal blockers, Anna gets oestrogen. This will make it so instead of male puberty she experiences some of the female puberty, such as small bumps for breasts and such." He said.
We all nodded. "How old do i have to be for surgery?" Anna asked.
"16" The doctor said.
She sighed. "What about for the removal of my adam's apple?" She asked.
"16." the doctor said. "Sorry sweetie." He said.
She nodded and looked at me.
"Well, for future reference. How much does the surgery cost?" I asked.
"It all depends. It fluctuates. But it is relatively expensive." He said.
"Okay." I nodded.
"ready?" The doc asked Anna.
"Ready." She nodded.
The doctor left and came back with a syringe and the hormone blockers.
He injected Anna, she squeezed my hand.
"And done!" The doctor smiled at Anna.
"Now, the blockers might make you a bit drowsy for the next couple of days. And tired. But that should be it. If there's anything else please come back right away." The doctor said.
"Thank you." Anna said through tears.
"My pleasure." He smiled at her.
We headed to the waiting room. Anna was so happy she wouldn't stop crying.
"I'm not gonna be a boy anymore." She wiped her eyes.
"That was fast." Cas smiled and stood up.
Anna nodded.
"You've never been a boy." I hugged her.
"Thank you for supporting me." She said, wiping her eyes.
"Of course." Cas smiled.
I rubbed her back.
When we went home, she went to her room. Matt was playing outside with some of the neighbourhood kids.
Cas and i were in the living room. "She's so happy to be herself." I said, leaning against him.
"I know." He smiled.
I turned to look at him, smiling. I kissed his cheek.
He turned his face and kissed my lips.
I moved closer, putting my hand in the back of his head.
He pulled me on his lap. We were heavily making out when Anna walked down the stairs.
"Really?" She laughed.
I jumped and pulled back. "Sorry." I cleared my throat. "H-how are you feeling?" I asked her as she grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter.
"Tired." She said throwing her hair over her shoulder, it was down to the middle of her back now.
"Are you gonna be okay to have dinner with uncle Sammy later?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure! I'll text Zeke." She said, taking out her phone. Anna and Zeke are like best friends. She's a few years older than him, but he hangs out with her at school and stuff.
She sat on the La Z boy chair, eating her apple and texting.
I got off Cas' lap and just sat beside him, leaning my head against his shoulder.
"Oh! Zeke's bringing Brandon to his house for dinner." She stood up. "Can.. can i wear makeup?" She asked.
We didn't really like it if she wore more makeup than needed. Like eyeliner and makeup like that is fine but not a full face, she's still young.
Cas sat up straighter. "For Brandon?" He asked.
"Well.. I.. Maybe?" She chuckled.
"Who's brandon?" I asked.
"Our friend." She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"You like him?" I asked.
"Obviously she does." Cas laughed.
Anna blushed. "Hes cute." She said.
"Sit, tell us about him." I smiled.
"Oh my god, daddy. No. I'm not gonna talk about boys with you." She started walking away.
"Why not? i've liked boys my whole life. Maybe i can help." I said.
She stopped walking and turned to look at Cas and I.
"Alright fine," she sat down. "Hes tall. He has blue eyes and a really nice smile." She started. "But he's also really nice to me. He knows that i was insecure about well.. biologically being a guy, but he said that it doesn't make a difference in who i am. He's also hilarious." She said.
I looked over at Cas.
He was smiling. "So you like this boy?" He said.
She nodded.
"Why do you think you need to wear makeup to impress him? You just said he's a nice guy and doesn't care what you look like." I said.
She shrugged. "I want to look pretty." She said.
"You are pretty." Cas said.
She rolled her eyes. "I mean hot. Like a boy my age would think? Not like my dad would think." She laughed.
"Fine. Fine, you can wear a bit of makeup." I said.
She smiled and ran up the stairs.
"Oh to be young and naive." He chuckled.
I turned to look at him. "You sayin' i don't make you swoon and you don't feel the need to impress me?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Not at all. But we've kinda been together for almost 10 years, Dean." He chuckled.
"So?" I pouted. "Tired of me?" I grinned, kissing his cheek, then laying down with my head in his lap.
"Oh god no." He kissed my forehead. "I just dont understand why she feels the need to impress him. I've never gone out of my way to impress you. I wanted you to like me for me." He said.
"She's a girl, it's different." I shrugged.
He sighed. "She shouldn't change for him."
I laughed. "Cas, it's just a bit of makeup." I looked up at him.
He frowned and looked at me.
"She's growin' up. She's allowed to wear makeup." i said.
"But-"
"But she's allowed." I chuckled, sitting up.
"Where are you going now?" He pouted.
"To see if she needs help. I used to wear makeup in college." I grinned and ran up the stairs.
"Wait what?" He laughed.
