When we got home, Anna ran upstairs, I was in the kitchen with Cas. "Matt!" I called. He was in the living room.
"Coming!" I heard his little steps as he ran in.
"You gon' tell me what happened?" I asked.
He sighed, the way I do.
"Definitely your son." Cas said.
I rolled my eyes.
"It's nothing daddy. Promise." He smiled innocently.
"Uh-uh." I shook my head. "That don't look like nothin'. What happened?" I said.
"Some boys at school said that because i am adopted that my family didn't want me." He said.
"So they hit you?" I asked, frowning.
"No. I said that my family chose me. And then i said their family is stuck with them." He said quietly.
"And then they got mad?" Cas asked.
"Mad yeah. But then they said my dads are.." He was thinking really hard, scrunching up his eyebrows. "Faggots?" He looked at us. "I didn't know what that meant. But i said that at least they love each other. Because i know one of the boys dad is not in his family anymore, so that boy hit me and then the teacher called the principal. I'm okay." He assured.
"He hit you cause of us?" I frowned, walking over to sit beside him.
"I guess so." He shrugged.
"Im sorry bud." I wrapped him in a hug.
"It's okay, Im okay daddy." He giggled when i squeezed him.
"Good." I ruffled his hair.
He scrunched up his nose. "What does faggot mean?" He asked.
"It's a mean word to call gay people." Cas said.
"Oh. Then why would they say that?" He frowned.
"Not everyone likes gay people" I explained.
"Why?" He pouted.
"Some people think it's unhealthy." Cas said.
"But it's love no matter who it is right?" He pouted.
"Yeah. But some people don't realize that." I said.
"Well that's stupid." He stood up.
"Yeah, right you are kid." I smiled and kissed the top of his head.
"Go play buddy, Daddy and i have to talk," Cas smiled.
"'kay!" He ran back to the living room.
I sighed.
"See? Same sigh." Cas said, leaning against the counter.
I nodded, grabbing a cup of coffee.
"So, what is bothering you?" He did his adorable head tilt.
"I told ya 'm fine." I sipped my coffee.
"It's my arms, isn't it?" He frowned.
"Cas." I sighed. "Seriously man, please drop it."
"Dean." He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. Since he was smaller than me he rested his chin against my chest and looked up at me. "I'm sorry i upset you. I just want to be assured you're alright." He kissed my chin.
I lazily wrapped my arm around him. "You shouldn't worry 'bout me. I'm good. Worry about yourself." I said, then realize that sounded harsh and looked down at him. "Please." I rested my forehead against him.
"I will try for you." He smiled.
"Can ya try for yourself? It's good that you wanna like.. make me happy and shit. But i want you to be happy for you." I kissed his nose.
"I will work on it." He nodded.
"I don't like it when my baby's sad." I rubbed his back.
"I'll be alright, Dean." He leaned up a bit to kiss me.
I held him for a while. Just standing in the kitchen. I let go of him after probably 20 minutes. "Imma go see Anna." I put my coffee down and ran upstairs.
"Knock knock." I walked in.
"Oh hey daddy." She smiled, looking up from her phone.
"Heya kiddo." I smiled. "We've got a couple things to talk about, don't we?" I smiled.
"I guess so?" She put her phone down and sat up.
I sat beside her on her bed. "First thing, how was school?" I asked.
"Fine i guess. Nothing special." She shrugged.
"Good." I nodded. "So uh.. We gotta talk about dad." I said.
"Right. Is he okay?" She frowned.
I shook my head. "Sweetie, i know you're young and shouldn't have to hear this. But he tried to take his own life yesterday." I explained.
"He.. He tried to kill himself?" She put her hand over her mouth, eyes watering.
"Yeah. Uh." i cleared my throat. "Yeah, so um. That's why i had to leave Sam's yesterday" I felt my eyes water. "And why you and your brother had to stay there." I said.
"Is he okay now?" She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Hes good. Hes workin' on it." I nodded.
"Okay..." She wiped her eyes.
"uh, but he wrote a note." I said. "In it he said how-" my voice cracked. I sniffled and sighed. "How proud he is of who you're becomin' and how much he loves you. And he said he wished he could be there for your wedding to walk you down the aisle.. But he's gonna be. We're gonna help him okay?" I said.
She scooted over to me and hugged me. "Of course." She nodded.
"We're gonna organize a dad-fun-day." I said.
She giggled and nodded.
I smiled. "Now, change of subject. Brandon? He your boyfriend?" I asked.
"No!" She blushed. "No." She shook her head.
"You sure?" I chuckled.
"I mean, id like him to be." She shrugged.
"Then listen up." I looked at her. "He is a nice boy. From what I could tell, anyways. I want him to come here for dinner one night. Just one, so dad and i can understand your likin' towards him and whether or not he'll break our princess' heart" I said.
"Fine." She giggled.
"Last thing" I said.
"hmm?" She grabbed her phone.
"What do you want for your birthday?" I asked.
"hair accessories and books." She said.
"Great." I smiled. "Have fun talkin' to your boyfriend." I kissed her forehead and got up.
"Not my boyfriend!" She said as i left.
I chuckled.
I walked back downstairs and sat on Cas' lap, as he was sitting on the couch.
He jumped, "You scared me." He laughed
"Sorry baby." I smiled.
He wrapped his arms around me and put his chin on my arm, looking up at me. "I love you." He whispered, tightening his arms around me.
"I love you too." I smiled and kissed his forehead.
