At lunch Cas came to my classroom as i was attempting to grab my bag.
"I got it." He said, picking it up for me an putting it over his shoulder.
"What would i do without you?" I asked, smiling as i put my arm over his shoulder, playing with the little hairs on the back of his neck.
"That feels strange." He laughed. "But you probably wouldn't be capable of anything without me." He smiled and got on his tip toes, kissing me gently, before we headed to the hallway. We walked hand in hand towards the teachers lounge to eat. We sat on one of the couches in the lounge, and he put his arm around my shoulders.
I rested my head against his shoulder and closed my eyes.
"You should eat something, love." He whispered, rubbing my back.
"I'm not hungry right now." I replied, i put my hand against his knee and snuggled up to him.
"okay.." He cleared his throat. "How are you feeling?" He asked.
I shrugged. "my ribs kinda hurt. But that's the only thing bothering me." I opened my eyes and looked up at him.
"That's good." He smiled, leaning down to kiss me gently.
I kissed him back, then pulled back sighing. "I hope i can get this damn cast off soon." I said.
"You probably can babe." He smiled at me.
I smile and looked down at my cast. It's the biggest fucking nuisance.
"Cas?" I whispered, looking back up at him.
"Yes sweetie." He said.
"My students asked me a bunch of questions today, and some of them were about us. So i told them."
"Thats okay love." He smiled.
I nodded. I ate, even though i wasn't hungry, and then went to my class, I did basically the same thing in all my classes, let them ask me questions, then let them do whatever.
At the end of the day, I had my spare period, which is my preparation period, and i attempted to write down plans for the week for my students, but i couldn't so i got out my laptop and did it on there. I was putting it away when Cas came up to me and put it away for me. We went home and cuddled. "So. Why don't you ever talk about your family?" I asked him as we were all curled up on the couch, watching a netflix show.
He cleared his throat and sighed. "My family and I do not get along." He said, stone faced, staring straight ahead.
"Baby, if you don't wanna talk about it, it's okay." I kissed his shoulder.
"You deserve to know." He said quietly.
"Cas, you're scaring me." I sat up straighter.
"My mother kicked me out when she found out i was.. uh.. gay." He cleared his throat. "My family is extremely religious, but my mother is the most orthodox of the christians. She follows all the rules. Doesn't leave the house on Sundays.. Stuff like that. Um. So that one bible verse, that i'm sure you've heard, "Man shall not lay with another man." Well, she took that out of context. So she kicked me out because i was-" He choked up and cleared his throat, "I um. I was dating my only boyfriend i had in school. It was in highschool. Uh, we were dating secretly, he would come over. We would hold hands, under the blanket, just in case. But the first time we kissed, we were careful. We were in my room, we made sure the door was closed, curtains too. And it was a short kiss. But after a while we stopped being so careful. And once the door was cracked open, and we were kissing. And my mother walked in. She yelled at me and asked me "How dare i?" and um. how I'm a disgrace, not only to the family but to the catholic community." A tear rolled down his cheek. That's the first time i've seen him cry; apart from the hospital.
"Baby," I whispered, wrapping my arm around him.
He sniffled. He sighed and wiped his eyes. "I'm not done. So my boyfriend left while she was yelling at me, and my brother came in to see what the yelling was about. When she told him she caught me kissing another boy, he didn't understand what was wrong with that. So she made him read and re-read that one tiny sentence in the ginormous bible." He sniffled. "He and I still talk sometimes, but he still ultimately chose to be with the family, and my mother said if he was in contact with me she wouldn't speak to him either, which is also why my father doesn't speak to me, because he listens to her, and he's afraid of her." He looked over at me.
"Cas, i didn't mean to dig up bad memories." I whispered, kissing his neck.
"It's okay. I needed to talk about it eventually." He leaned against me, putting his head against my shoulder. I kissed the top of his head. "I love you." He mumbled, wrapping his arms around me carefully.
"I love you too baby." I rubbed his back. "So do you still consider yourself as a catholic?" I asked him.
"Not really." He mumbled.
I rubbed his back. "If its any consolation, i don't have a good relationship with my dad." I said.
He looked up at me. "Why?" He asked.
"My mom died when i was 4 and I had to raise Sammy, and if i didn't obey my dads orders, he wouldn't treat me well. So when he found out i was gay he didn't take it very well so i decided to cut ties with him." I explained.
He leaned his head back down against my shoulder and sighed. "Families suck." He chuckled.
I nodded. "But i think our little family is great." I whispered.
He looked up at me again. "Me too." He smiled slightly, kissing my jaw.
The car accident gave me some permanent injuries, such as brain damage, which affected my eyesight.   It hurt to look at things that were too bright and sometimes things got blurry out of no where. But apart from that i'm almost fully recovered. And i'm so happy that I have my sweet little Cassie with me to help me through it all.
