VIOLET
HONESTLY, I've never been more miserable in my life. I miss him more than ever. Why am I such an idiot?
I haven't been in school for a few days, I've been bedridden all week. Walking in I get a few glares, but I'm not shaken by it. Every student in the morning is supposed to go to the main building before they go to their separate buildings.
Passing the office in the main building I see two guests sitting in the chairs inside. I look through the large window to find Trixie and Pearl slouching over in the office pouting. It appears they're waiting for the old lady at the front desk to call them into the principals office.
I can smell the lady's cheap perfume from here. She's wearing a baby blue blouse with baggy sleeves. She's typing rapidly typing on the keyboard in front of her. Her glasses are pulled down to the tip of her nose.
When I get closer I can hear Pearl and her fighting. I can barely make out the words.
"Mam?"
"Shh."
"Excuse me miss? Why are we here?"
The woman looks up from her computer, "I'm sorry. But I honestly can't tell you, but Mr. Charles can." She presumes to type loudly on the black keyboard.
Pearl leans into Trixie and whispers, "She's lying?"
"Yep."
"Mr. Charles is ready to see you," She mutters under her breath as they walk into the office, "Hooligans."
I bite my lip, wondering what could've happened. The glass walls isolating the office are so thin I can hear the entire conversation. The only thing blocking me from the Pearl is the glass wall. Trixie and Pearl don't even know I'm there.
I tip toe swiftly to the other side of the office where the Principal's office is. I watch them sit down beside Katya who was already waiting in the office.
"So do you know why I called you two boys in here?" Mr. Charles props himself up and folds his hands over the desk.
"No-" Pearl coughs, "-Sir."
"Well Mr - Um, what's your name again?" He points to Katya sitting on one of the chairs.
"Just say Katya."
"Mr. Katya here reported you two this morning claiming you egged his house this weekend."
Trixie covers his head with his hands and groans as Pearl looks at the window that leads to the hall. He almost spots me but I immediately duck down, only letting my eyes show.
"What do you two have to say for yourself?"
Pearl shrugs, looking at his feet.
"Answer me!" The tall and lean bald man demands.
Pearl screams back, "I don't know!"
"You're lucky Mr. Katya doesn't want to press charges. That doesn't mean you're getting off easy!" Mr. Charles pulls out a pen and paper, "You have ten hours of community service, and a week of detention." He writes everything he says down.
He reaches for the phone on his desk waving it at the two, "I will be informing both of your parents."
"No please!" Pearl begs, cupping his hands over his mouth.
Oh god, who knows what'll happen to Pearl? Luckily, Katya speaks up. I assume he knows since he used to be close with Pearl. He knows what'll happen to him if his dad finds out.
Katya willingly defends Pearl and Trixie, "You don't have to do that Mr. Charles, please."
"I have to." Mr. Charles rebuttals.
"I don't think it's necessary." Katya fights back, looking at Pearl with pity in his eyes. I can see Pearl shaking, on the verge of tears. It shows how terrified he is of his parents. I feel even worse.
"I'm calling them." Mr. Charles starts dialing the numbers of both Pearl and Trixie's parents. Trixie lays a hand on Pearl's thigh to comfort him.
"Hi Mr. Liaison? It's Mr. Charles, I'm sitting here with your son Pearl. He's in serious trouble for egging another students house with a friend of his."
I can't hear what Pearl's father is saying but the replies Mr. Charles is giving him shows how infuriated he is.
"I understand sir I understand."
"No I don't think that's necessary."
"- Sir, Sir! No, I will not. You can settle this at home." Those are some things he says back to Pearl's father.
The words settle this at home has Pearl about to curl up into a ball. Now he's really crying, bitting on his thumb nail rocking back and forth in his chair.
After he calls Trixie's mom he lets all three of them leave. Once they exit Pearl notices me, he glares at me hard. His eyes are red from crying, and there's a few tears making their way down his cheek. He turns his head back to the path in front of him. His attention is no longer on me, I've never wanted to die more.
