I've seen many things in my lifetime. All of them in the wee hours of the morning, when the sun first splits the horizon, and the dew is only just finished condensing. I've seen mice scurrying about with tiny morsels of food, possibly toast crumbs, and leave little room for error, as they cartwheel and zip around the room, clutching their meager food, as they head someplace beyond human reach. I've seen the sun crest over the yonder horizon, in all its fiery orange beauty, as it rises to announce the day is upon us. I've seen the animals, freshly awoken from a night of restful sleep, the deep sleep of,the weary, and stretching, watched as they readied for a long day's work of gathering and preperation. I've heard the rain, light, friendly drops of rain singing it's melody of natural peace. I've heard the birds, bright, soft, and peaceful, singing to all those who have lain awake restlessly in the darkness. I have seen fog, cool, calm, and as restless as I, beckoning for me to embark on a nice walk in the woods. I have seen dark storm clouds, moody, angry, and grey, keeping me confined to the inside, letting me remain indoors. As an insomniac, I have seen many things which people can't. I have seen the beautiful tones and colors of nature, seen the same restless, boundless spirit that nature truly is, and heard sounds reminding me of what it means to truly be alive. Nature is a beauty totally unlike any other, and sometimes, I really am blown away at what the woods of Maine have to offer, even after years of weathering and years of change. I guess I was right, some things never change.

*Note: I had to write a short piece on my experience with the beauty of nature and how insomnia has opened my eyes in a crazy way. I feel like this is one of the more positive aspects of insomnia, and I've really made a list of both positive and negative things. Positivity is a really hard thing to find, so it feels like something totally new when you actually find something that's not only positive, but also beautiful and meaningful to you. Peace out.
