I rang the doorbell to Garroth's house. He had called me a while ago, saying that it was an emergency. I swear to Irene if this is not an emergency...
The door opens, and I see Garroth face contorted in an expression of worry and panic. "Baby brother!" he exclaims, reaching out. "What's wrong?" I asked, wondering if this is something I should be worried. "Hurry! We need you!" He pulled me inside and closed the door.
"What is going o-" I stopped mid-sentence to see all the guys on the couch. They looked grave. What on earth...?
"Come here, Zane," Aaron said, gesturing me to walk over to them.
"Uh... no thanks. This is creepy." I wheeled and started to head out the door, only to be stopped by Garroth. "Zane..." Garroth said, his suddenly deep tone indicating that they are serious. "We're worried about you. We need to talk. Bros to bro."
"I told you, I'm not doing this. I don't need this." I grunted, trying to stare Garroth down. His concerned eyes disarm me. I sighed, then walked closer to the living room and sat down on the couch next to Travis.
"Okay... so, what's the deal all of a sudden?" I asked, looking around. I don't want to be here. I don't want to talk to anyone except Y/N. I don't need anyone except for her.
"Well, Y/N told us that you needed some help," Garroth said, grabbing a chair from the kitchen and sitting down. My eyes narrowed. She told them?
"She told you guys what happened?" I demanded. Travis shook his head. "No. She only said you needed some help, so you'd talk to us about what happened."
"But I really don't want to--" I stopped and took a deep breath before I explode. I remember Y/N saying the other night, "You're able to socialize and make friends with no harm, so why not?" She's right. I can't make any excuses anymore. I can talk to people on my own, and I honestly need this.
"We understand you're a little uneasy to talk about your problems. But we also know that you need to talk to some people about it," Garroth told me calmly. "Just trust us. We care and we're willing to listen."
I smiled a little at him. All my life, I've never realized that there were other people who cared about me in my time of struggle. Up until I've met Y/N, I thought that I was stuck in my own dark world with no one to reach out to me. I guess it's okay to let others in my life now. "Thanks."
I spent the next fifteen minutes explaining my curse and how it was broken. At the end, I looked around to see everyone staring at me intently, not one hint of disbelief in their faces. Laurance was the first one to speak up after my story. "How come you've never told us about it before?"
"I refused to let anyone into my life. I was scared that I would eventually kill them in my dreams, affecting my relationships. Plus, you guys never reached out to me. It was difficult," I replied a bit grimly.
Garroth silently stood up, walked over to me, sat on my lap (NOT straddling him, ew O_O), and wrapped his arms around my neck. "We are so sorry, baby brother..." He cooed, patting my hair. My eyes widen and I push him off me, sending him to the floor. "Garroth!" I exclaim.
"Sorry, Zane. Garroth gets clingy during an emotional moment." Dante said. "Don't tell me. I've lived with him my whole life." I brushed off the invisible "happy Garroth aura" off my jeans. Everyone started laughing, even Garroth. Looking around, I start grinning. I've never been in a group of friends like this. Friends who can be serious and be understanding one moment, then laughing and smiling the next.
I'll thank her later.
