As Matt and I made our way around the currently busy backyard, a few people stopped and looked at us curiously. I looked back at them feeling a little awkward, before looking back to my mate, who'd hand was wrapped around mine. Matt smiled down at me in reassurance, his perfect teeth almost blinding. I let out a breath and looked at the makeshift stage in the very back of the yard with one microphone stand on it, two speakers placed on opposite sides of the stage. The members of the pack finished doing small duties here and there, before many members began spilling out of the back doors.
I watched in surprise at just how many people lived in this one house, before realizing some of them may just live in the neighborhood like my old pack mates. A ping of sadness filled my heart, but I ignored it focusing on not tripping as Matt led me up the stage after Alpha Silver Lake. His face was lost in thought, oblivious to the women who sat around trying to gain his attention, as he led took the microphone off of its stand. The microphone echoed through the backyard, as Silver Lake cleared his throat and silenced the crowd with a slight hand raise.
I watched in slight surprise and awe at just how fast the crowd became silent. It was almost as though you could hear a pin drop in the soft grass, but even a pin wouldn't dare disobey the Alpha. Once the Alpha was sure no one would destroy the silence he had commanded he gestured for Matt and I come to his side. I held my head up high like my father taught me many years ago at Beta training and stepped forward slightly with Matt standing closely beside me.
A few people looked in our direction curiously. I smiled slightly at them and a few members smiled back or nodded in greeting. Matt wrapped a protective arm around my waist, leaning down and sniffing my neck, probably to stake his claim to the males in the room. I laughed slightly into his shoulder, before looking toward the Alpha Silver Lake as he shook his head in amusement at my mates' silliness. Matt didn't care through as he stood calmly at my side, waiting for the alpha to begin his spiel about why we were here and all that jazz.
"Good Afternoon everyone, I thank you all for coming to the meeting in such short notice." People in the audience nodded at him in greeting, before looking back at Matt and I, "I know many of you are curious to know who our new temporary members are," murmurs spread around the grass in response, "well this is Beta Samantha Knight and her mate Matthew Moon and their pack was recently attacked by a rogue fighter of the pack, so we will be providing them with shelter until they are able to resolve the matter." The crowd nodded in acceptance and I let out a breath that I didn't realize I've been holding in.
"Now, in order for these two to join our pack they must forgo a truth serum test as all those who have come into our lands." I sucked the breath back in and look at the Alpha in shock. He never told us that there would be a test to join his pack. Matt on the other hand didn't seem as surprised as he looked straight ahead at the alpha. I thought back to everything that had happened in the last few days and thought about reliving it and didn't know if I truly wanted to. The last few days were horrible and the thought of having to share this horrible retelling with people I barely knew or trusted was not on the to do list.
"... once the test these two with my Beta and third in command, assuming there is no holes in their story, we will have the full acceptance ceremony tonight along with a feast in their honor. As long as they accept our terms..." The Alpha paused and looked back at me, "Do you accept the terms?" I gulped quietly, but gave him a respectful nod, before looking up at Matt who also nodded. I knew we didn't have anything to hide, but I really hoped they wouldn't poke at personal wounds that haven't yet healed.
