George found John siting against the back of the artsy building. His hair was flopped in front of his eyes and playing with his cellphone, flipping it open and closed over and over and scraping his ankles on the curb. George clutched his small paper bag and sat down next to him silently, preparing everything to smoke. His fringe fell over his own eyes and rolled the paper, lit it and gave one to John. He took it wordlessly and puffed it with an exhausted sigh. "So Paul stopped by...."
"Yeah, Richard told him about it, I didn't know or else I would've I dunno stopped him somehow" George laughed lightly and puffed his own. "What's happened?"
"He's gone and pissed me off, I'll tell ya. I agreed to go on a date with this bird from work, just because I wanted to see the art" John snickered and George teasingly rolled his eyes. "And he got all pissed, like he's entitled to and pulled out that I told him I loved him" John puffed again. George shook his head and rolled his between his fingers.
"He's a jerk....a lovely one though" George sighed with disgust at himself. "As if it wasn't enough that I can't have Paul-"
"What are you on about?" John interrupted him and George closed his eyes and breathed in.
"Remember when you asked me if there was anyone else I could like the way I like Paul?" George asked, putting his forearm across his legs. John thought about it for a minute and nodded his head. "Well, I thought maybe I could like Richard and today went really well but-" George looked off as he started to feel tears in his eyes. He gripped his hand around his ankle and pushed his foot across the ground. "He's got a girlfriend, isn't that just how this shit goes for me?" He tried to laugh. John bit his lip and looked at him with sympathetic eyes.
"Hey, we took down and engagement, didn't we?" John bumped their arms together and laughed, his laugh had gotten much louder. George set his smoke on his lip and shook his head.
"Wasn't us. Sides, Jane should know if her fiancé's gay or not" he snickered, feeling his senses starting to enhance. He could tell John was aching to listen to music, he did that a lot when he got high. So he collected their stuff and pulled John to his car that was parked in the practically deserted parking lot. When they got in, George turned the radio on and instantly John put his head back and listened. "You look like a real nutter" George poked his arm but John just hummed.
"I can hear everything George. Listening to music right now physically feels marvelous" he waved his hands about and George just laughed. "It hurts " John let his head fall back to its prior position. George gave him an odd look.
"What happens to marvelous?"
"Not the music, it's Paul" John rolled his eyes. "It hurt enough when I thought he'd moved on. Now it's just shitty. He's such a spoiled wanker, toying with me and that. You know, I've kissed him many times-"
"You've kissed him?!" George rolled his smoke around on his lips, pushing himself to the side by palming the steering wheel. John smiled widely.
"Oh yeah, couple a times when we were kids. Nothing, I mean nothing changed with us. Don't think anything will at this point."
"Don't think Paul ever looked at me like...special or anything. Nothing but mates" George snorted spitefully. He hadn't particularly noticed how close their faces were. "So I know how ya feel" George nodded. John nodded too, keeping the same pace. George laughed.
"Would ya like to try something?" John asked. George shrugged
"Yeah, sure" he giggled and John put his hands on George's cheeks and tried to balance his foot against the car door, careful not to hit the handle. He strategically leaned forward and put his lips against George's. He felt the motion between their mouths and they kept it going for as long as they could before they broke apart with cackling laughter.
