George didn't have much of an option so he sat down on one of the couch benches and flipped his cellphone out to dial Pattie. He knew she had a key for the building that she got from one of the security guards. He would've rather have called a security guard but Pattie was his best bet.
He pressed it against his ear and waited through four rings.
"Hello?" A tired sounding voice asked.
"Pattie, its George. I'm locked in the building"
Pattie burst into laughter "and you want me to come get you?"
"Yes Pattie. You're the only chance I have" George muttered embarrassingly. Pattie ceased the laughing.
"Alright fine. I'll be there in like ten to fifteen minutes"
He could see Pattie checking her watch and pulling herself out of her bed.
George waited for nearly twenty minutes until Pattie pulled up to the curb and thrust herself out. She unlocked the gate and walked up to the front door swinging the keys around her finger. She opened the door fiercely and leaned on the door with a whistle. Pattie looked over George with a lot of superiority and giggling satisfaction.
"How ya doing?" She twitched her smile upwards and teased him. George rubbed his hands together with an unpleasant feeling in his stomach.
"Thanks Pattie" George tried to hint that he didn't want to talk to her about what she was thinking of bringing up. She fluttered her eyelashes and rolled her fist on the door handle. She still hadn't let him past or shut the door, the cold making the baby hairs on her neck stand up and giving George chills. She tilted her head quickly, throwing her ponytail to the other side.
"We don't talk anymore" she said bluntly. "I've had a lot to deal with since our break up...but-"
"You've come to terms with it? Only took you how long Pattie?" George rolled his eyes and tried to go past her but Pattie gave him a look that made him stay put.
"It's difficult George! I was in love with ya and you're gay!" Pattie shouted and made a few muffled sniffles but collected herself soon after. "That's not easy to brush off ok? How am I suppose to get over those feelings when I see you everyday?" She smiled a tiny bit, her voice a little sunken.
"Well I didn't know that. But it's not been a breeze for me either, Pattie." George straightened his back and Pattie tapped her fingers against the cold metal. "Figuring out my sexuality was a struggle I never thought I'd have to go through. Trust me, I thought I loved you"
Pattie wrinkled the skin under her eyes "yeah, you asked me to marry you when you first met me. Which is quite funny when I think about it" she bit her finger.
"Yeah well." George shrugged. "Anyway, I've got to go home. Thanks again" George went out the door and guided himself over the rough pavement and over to his car. Pattie leaned further on the door and watched him go, taking a deep breath she pulled herself away and went for her own car. Once George got into his car, the whole day flooded through his mind. He gripped the steering wheel and got that annoying pain in his temple.
Paul went into work tired, Jane had gone on and on about the John and Brian situation she'd not so pleasantly found out about. She was entirely too invested in the gossip of it all and unfortunately Paul was the only one she could talk to about it. And when she grew sick of that she'd move onto the wedding. He could barely keep his eyes open as he hung up his stuff and sat down.
John saw Pauls head fall onto his desk from the corner of his eyes and grinned. He stood up from his own seat and walked over, Pauls snoring was quiet but amusing. He thought of a million different ways to wake him up but Stu popped up next to him and threw his pencil cup at him. Paul shot up, sort of scared. John sneered at Stu who only smiled. "Can you hand that to me?" Stu asked sweetly to Paul, pointing to the cup. Paul reached over and threw it across the room.
