Chapter 7:

     Eddie let out a yawn, as he woke up the next morning. Aleks hadn't woken up, while he was there. He would visit Aleks today too. He turned on the news, that morning, before school, to the morning weather forecast, and then, current events of the city.

"Yesterday, a boy was hospitalized, for a broken rib, and a punctured lung. Apparently, his father had been abusing him, since he was 10. Now 6 years later, Mr. David Merchant has been arrested." The lady announcer spoke, shuffling the papers on her desk.

"Oh my god." Eddie choked on his coffee, that he had been drinking.

     Aleks father was arrested yesterday? It was Eddies fault... But he deserved it. He hurt, and almost killed Aleks. Mr. Merchant deserved everything that came to him. Eddie grinned, just thinking about it. He was happy for Aleks.

     But what would happen to Aleks, once he woke up? What would happen, if Aleks woke up? Would he go into the system? Eddie became very worried. He had to see Aleks today.

     Eddie went to visit Aleks right after school. He had been thinking about him all day. He wanted to make sure Aleks was okay. Aleks was Eddies world. He had meant that, when he had said it to the cop.

     Walking into Aleks room, he went back to the chair he had been sitting in the day before. Aleks was still unconscious, and still was not fully breathing on his own. He looked so pitiful in this state. Eddie held his hand, and talked to Aleks, even though he could not hear Eddie.

     2 or 3 hours passed, and Eddie fell asleep. He was spending all day with Aleks. Just before 6, Aleks suddenly sat up, awake, and in pain. Doctors rushed in, forcing him down, and waking up Eddie, as they pushed him away.

"Hey, Aleks... You probably want that tube out." The doctor said, tapping on the tube that went through his neck, which helped him breath. Aleks nodded. The doctors pulled the tube out, and helped Aleks calm down. He was panicking.

"Aleks!" Eddie pushed through the doctors, and grabbed his hand.

"Eh..." His voice was weak.

"Aleks, its okay. Its okay. Your father was arrested." Eddie came to his side.

"He... He's in..." His voice sounded so hoarse.

"Yeah. You dont have to worry about that stuff anymore." Eddie spoke quietly.

"Kev-Kevin..." He tried to gasp out.

"Can I get some water?" Eddie asked the doctor. He rushed out of the room.

"Kevin..." Aleks began to cough.

"What about him?" Eddie asked, forcing Aleks to relax.

"He broke it... Dad... He..." Aleks coughed harder.

"You need to stop. Relax Aleks..." Eddie calmed Aleks.

"kevin broke your rib?"

     Aleks nodded weakly. He looked so upset. Tears came to his eyes. Eddie hugged Aleks, and tried to comfort him. Eddie had not known about Kevin. What else had he done to Aleks?

     Aleks just sobbed for a while. His throat burned, and his chest ached. He was hungry, and confused. Eddie hugged Aleks tightly, making him feel more secure. Eventually, the tears stopped, and Aleks pulled away. There was a cup of water sitting on the little table beside him. He drank it down quickly, before speaking again.

"My father beat me this morning, and then I came to school, and my rib must have already been broken. Kevin punched me in the chest..." Aleks couldnt finish.

"Oh Aleks... Im so sorry..." Eddie continued to hug him.

"Eddie... I thought I was gonna die... before I could..."

"Aleks, no. Dont talk like that. You are alive still, and your father is going to jail for a long time. We need to tell someone about Kevin too." Eddie comforted him.

"No. Leave Kevin alone..." Aleks said softly. He did not want to say much more.

"Aleks... He hurt you... I thought... He could have killed you! He cant just get away with-"

"Eddie... He wont bother me anymore. I dont want to ruin his life, by sending him to jail..." Aleks just sighed, and rested back on the pillow.

"Oh... Okay..." Eddie did not know how to proceed.

"Hey Eddie?" Aleks sounded nervous.

"What is it?" Eddie gave him his full attention.

"You know the person I like... I was worried that I could never tell them just how much I cared about them..." Aleks stared into Eddies eyes, hoping he would get the message.

"Oh... well, now you didnt die, so you can tell them now." Eddie looked sad.

"Eddie..." Aleks sat up, almost glaring at Eddie.

"Do you want me to tell you who I like?"
