Chapter 9

Chapter 9:

     After several days of visiting Aleks in the hospital, every day after school, A social worker came to visit Aleks. She was tall, and her face was wrinkled. The woman was easilly in her 60s.

     She sat down in his room, and Eddie held Aleks hand, as the woman began to speak.

"Aleksandr Merchant?"

"Yes." Aleks nodded.

"I have come to talk to you about your living conditions... You obviously cant live alone until you are 18." Her voice was raspy.

"I know."

"Do you have any relatives you could stay with, that I can contact?"

"My..." Aleks stopped. He couldnt continue with that choice. His uncle was an Alcoholic as well...

"Who?" She pressed.

"My uncle." He was the only one who lived in town, and would not force him to be away from Eddie.

"Does he live in town?" She was typing on a little laptop she had brought with her.

"Yes..." She gave him the instructions.

     The woman asked a few more questions and walked out. She was done questioning him. Aleks squeezed Eddies hand. He was so nervous that he shook. He sighed in slight frustration, remembering just how difficult his life would continue to be...

"Aleks?" Eddie waved a hand in front of Aleks face.

"What?"

"Whats so bad about your uncle?" He looked so concerned.

"Nothing. He is better than my father, any day."

"Aleks... Dont lie to me."

"Im not!" Aleks grinned.

"Aleks. Dont lie." Now Eddie was smiling.

"I told you, Im not!" Aleks laughed.

     Soon Eddie was kissing him, both boys smiling. Aleks was so happy to be in a relationship with him. He was ecstatic... But he realized just how selfish he was being. He shouldnt have said anything... He should have been pulled away from Eddie... He knew that one day, Aleks would hurt him, due to how broken Aleks was.

     Aleks wrapped his arms around Eddies neck, and Eddie slipped an arm around Aleks waist, while the other arm was on the bed, supporting his weight. The kiss slowed down, into a passionate kiss, full of emotion. Eddie pulled away, leaving only an inch between their faces.

"Aleks... I love you." Eddie paused.

"I... I love you too." Aleks lifted his head, to close the space between them.

     The kiss was tender, and slow. Aleks let all his troubles slip away, in that kiss, and he forgot where he was. All that mattered was his love for Eddie. He felt Eddies hand cup Aleks cheek. This was the most love Aleks had ever felt in his whole life.

     Eddie felt all of Aleks muscles relax, and he was glad. For once, Aleks was happy. He was never this relaxed. Eddie was happy too. He loved Aleks.

     Suddenly their kiss broke, when a nurse walked in. Eddie pulled away, and turned red with embarrassment. The nurse checked Aleks vitals, and smiled, as she read the results.

"You seem to be doing better, Aleks. You will be able to leave next week." She was smiling about more than how Aleks health was.

"Thank you..." Aleks looked away, also red with embarrassment.

"I will leave you two to continue."

     That mood was killed, but Eddie still leaned close. He scratched the back of his head, and shrugged. Aleks laughed a bit. Eddie took Aleks hand again.

"You can stay over, whenever." Eddie half smiled.

"Thank you..."

     The rest of the day, they just talked about all the important to them. How they would keep it from Eddie's parents, and What would Aleks' uncle think. Would he even care?

     Eddie ended up talking to Aleks about Kevin somehow. Aleks seemed to get upset, during this conversation.

"How long?" Eddie asked.

"months..."

"Aleks, why didnt you tell me?"

"I didn't want you to worry about me."

"I worry about you anyways." Eddie took Aleks hand.

"He used to be nice." Aleks looked away.

"He became abusive. Aleks... I just couldnt stand to see you that way."

"You dont have to anymore." Eddie smiled, and squeezed Aleks' hand, reassuringly.

"Its late... You should get home." Aleks sighed.

"Alright... I'll be back tomorrow!" Eddie stood, kissed Aleks forehead, and left.
