Chapter 15:
4 Days. 4 Days of long, frustrating court. Lies had been told, and rumors had been spread. Now, it was time for the jury to make a decision. Aleks' father stood, as the judge asked what the jury had concluded. He smirked.
"What is your conclusion."
"We find the defendant..." The man paused, glancing at Aleks, who was clinging to Eddie.
"Well?" The judge became impatient.
"We find the defendant not guilty."
Aleks let out a horrified sob, and was out the door, before anyone could react. He ran, and ran, until his legs hurt, and his breathing was shallow. He didn't know where he was... Stopping, he glanced around, to see that he was on a small street, lined with store fronts, and a coffee shop. Finding it as good a place as any, he slipped inside. No one would easilly find him here.
Aleks was now in danger. His father could kill him, which meant Aleks needed to hide away for as long as possible, until he was 18. Then he could find Eddie again, and be able to be with him again.
"Hi, what can I get you?" a barista asked him.
"Uh... just a black coffee..." Aleks slid a few spare dollar bills onto the counter. It reminded him that he had to pull out his money from his bank account.
"Are you alright?" The barista asked.
"I... I will be fine..."
"I probably sound like a freak... I'm James." He sighed, walking towards his station, to make some coffee for Aleks.
"Aleks..." He mumbled.
"Here." James smiled at him.
"Thanks... I need to find a place to stay..."
"There is a hotel, two blocks from here?"
"Expensive... but it will have to do..."
"You running from somebody?" James asked, confused.
"Yeah, you could say that..."
"Well... I may sound really bizarre, but I have a big house... Maybe you can stay the night at my place."
"I couldnt possibly intrude-"
"Nonsense. Im offering." He smiled, and set down Aleks' coffee.
"I... I do need a place to stay..." Aleks contemplated staying with the guy. He was cute, and Aleks couldnt help but feel like he was checking Aleks out...
"Listen. I need to get back to work, but..." He wrote his phone number on a napkin.
"O... Okay." Aleks muttered, and the barista walked away.
Aleks thought of Eddie, and how he wouldnt be able to talk to him, unless he called from a payphone... He didnt want Eddie to find him. The reason why, was that he didnt want Eddie giving Aleks hiding place away to the police. He would have to call Eddie soon. Aleks remembered his own cell phone, and he ditched it, in a trash can.
He would not let anyone find him. He needed to stay hidden, for his own, and Eddie's sake. He needed to keep Eddie away from his father, because if Aleks got beat again, there was a chance that Eddie would snap at him...
Shifts changed, and the kind barista boy left. It was getting dark, and Aleks needed to make a decision soon. He went to a payphone, and called the barista boy.
"Hello?"
"Hey... its the kid from the coffee shop..."
"Oh! You want to stay the night?"
