John's POV

My last conversation with Dave had been right after breakfast when he asked me what was on my mind. At first, I was confused, which he apparently picked up on because he told me that I looked like I was thinking really hard about something. I could feel myself blush a little, realizing that I had been much quieter that usual. I didn't want to answer his question because I had been thinking hard about us: what we were, what was going to happen now, and if anything was going to happen at all or if we would just keep being awkward around each other. I just waved my hand casually and claimed that I was just thinking about random things and letting myself just space out.

I soon left after that and hadn't really talked to him since. I was too nervous to ask the questions I had, so nothing happened with that. I hadn't seen him after that either, seeing as it was winter break. It was a Wednesday when my phone started ringing for the first time in a while. I looked at the screen and saw Dave's name above the red and green buttons. I took a deep breath before accepting the call and putting my phone against my ear.

"Hi, Dave," I said as calmly and casually as I could.

"Hey, Egderp. I was wondering if you might, um, like to go on a date, maybe ?" He sounded really nervous and awkward and if it weren't for the question he just asked, I probably would've laughed because of how uncharacteristic that was for him. That being said, there was still the question hanging in the air. The question I had so hoped he would ask for such a long time.

"Yes, of course I would !" I couldn't keep a giant smile from taking over my face.

"Oh, cool." He sounded relieved. "When do you want to go ?"

"Well, seeing as how I've been doing absolutely nothing, I'm free whenever." I couldn't believe this was actually happening, and my cheeks were starting to hurt from all the smiling.

"Alright, how about tomorrow at 7 ?"

"Yeah, that's perfectly fine." I think my face was going to fall off at this point.

"Okay, cool. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 7 o'clock, then."

"What are we going to do ?"

"You'll just have to wait and see."

"Aww okay." I really wanted to know, but I guess surprises are fun.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Egderp."

"Okay Daaave." I was almost certain he was rolling his eyes right now. After we hung up, I went to my closet to figure out what to wear. Sure, the date wasn't until tomorrow, but I was too excited to not go ahead and prepare everything. I wanted it to be perfect because I actually got asked out by Dave, and that just made me so happy.

At 6:30 p.m., I was pacing around my room and going through my mental checklist, just to make sure that everything was as it should be. I was already dressed in a dark blue button up with nice black pants, and I had tried to do something to make my hair cooperate but it eventually proved that it could not be tamed, so I just gave up on that. I tried to look as good as I possibly could, and I kept worrying about my appearance until I heard the doorbell ring. I sighed and kept mentally telling myself that I looked fine, but even so, I was still nervous as heck.

When I opened the door, I was met by a fully-smiling Dave -- something pretty rare. He was wearing a red dress shirt with a black vest thing over it paired with black pants.

"Hello Mr. Egderp. How are you this fine evening ?" Dave said in posh accent.

"Yes, hello Mr. Striderp. I am doing very well. Are you also in good health ?" Instead of answering, he raised an eyebrow.

"'Striderp ?' Seriously ?"

"Okay okay 'Daaave' it is, then."

"Wait, is that gel in your hair ?" I reached up and messed with my hair a bit, trying to make it look more normal.

"I tried to fix it, but it didn't work."

"Nah, you would look weird without your signature messy hair. Besides, you look nice anyway." I blushed.

"Thanks, you do to."

"Okay, well this is getting way too cheesy, so let's go." I followed him out to his car and we started heading to wherever it was that we were going. I only made it about 10 minutes until I asked where we were going.

"You'll see."

"Daaave."

"We're almost there." I stared out the window, trying to figure out where we were, but I couldn't tell.

Eventually, we parked in front of a really nice-looking restaurant called the Rivercliff Grille. The atmosphere inside was really nice. The booths were comfy and the lights were kind of dimmed and the place just looked nice. The menu had tons of options, but I eventually picked out a salmon dish.

"So, what do you think ?" Dave asked me.

"It's really nice ! I like it."

"Good, I hoped you would. Just wait until the food comes." I had been smiling since we left my house and I couldn't stop. There were butterflies fluttering around in my stomach and I was absolutely filled with happiness.

When the food came out, I was amazed. It looked so good, and tasted even better. After the first bite, I looked up at Dave.

"It's good, I assume ?" He said, smiling a little. I nodded my head and smiled.

"I don't think I've eaten anything this good !"

"Glad you like it." I went back to eating the heavenly food.

Dave pulled in to my driveway and walked me to my door.

"That was really fun," I said.

"So does that mean I can take you on another date ?"

"Yeah ! I would love that."

"Well, until then. Goodnight Egderp."

"Goodnight Daave." He further messed up my hair a bit more and headed back to his car, waving before pulling out of the driveway. When I got to my room, I fell back on my bed and sighed contentedly. I don't know the last time I'd been this happy.

> Author's Note

Hello Brotatoes. I know it's been a while, but my computer had been, as Miracle Max would say, 'mostly dead'. (That's the crazy white-haired dude from the Princess Bride.) Thankfully, I have a new laptop that actually works, so here's the chapter ! I'm sorry if it's kinda crappy; I'm terrible at writing scenes like this. Haha oops. Anyway, I hope it was at least sorta bearable and I'll talk to you in the next chapter. Thank you to everyone that's still reading this !
